I want to find out whether the toon shaders can be used for technical illustrations. I tried the toon shader uv.toon from Urban Velkavrh but it is not doing a great job on more complicated objects. In workspace there are a few DX toonshaders. When I apply them I cannot render the objects, they are totally black, see below. One propeller blade is textured with a normal color shader, so there is light! It is probably very trivial but I can not found a way to make them work. Does anyone have a suggestion?

The toon shaders have paths that are not compatable with v-ray. to render, look to the icon at the very bottom right of your screen. It is called render to file.

Change the float value to change the thickness of your "line"

edit - sorry - that was the default toon shader - YOU would change the "linewidth" to change it.

Thanks, Kena. It had to be something like that. Most of the other shaders work in Vray although I guess they may have somewhat different properties. Having Vray I rarely use the DX system.

I use whichever render system that fits my project. There is definitely room for real-time in your renders. Since it's real-time, what you see iw what you get. Try it out.
