I figure this may be a good place for Real Time Pros to

share tips and tricks with the real time renderer.

I admit I'm no 'expert' (apprentice's apprentice is more apt a title for me :D ) so I can definitely learn a lot too!

Ok folks; let's share and learn! :jumpy:

Rendering an AVI file With RealTime Render

Well I think this may be really usefull for the new users. Why realtime render a lot of photos? what to do with this enormous number of frames?

Realtime is faster then offline renders because it just render in the RAM memory(really fast), the HD is really much slow to write on it! So one reason to write this separated photo files is because would take too much time to process and make an avi file, then it could not be called as a realtime render :D TomG explains better then me

But one question that I can answer is the second one. A member of the community (DesignDevil) built an excelent free Sequency to AVI converter, the BIVI (attached). Its in german but it works really good!

And here a small tutorial:

- Choose the folder with your images (left side, yellow folder icon)

- Press the ADD icon button (with the 3 little images -> ADD ALL)

- Now enter the video frame per second rate (Frames Pro Sekunde) i.e. 25 for PAL

- Choose "1 Frame(s)" in the field "Anzeigedauer"

- Click on the green "Erstelle AVI" Button (means "create AVI")

- Choose the Codec & Filename

Awesome idea of this thread Froo ;)

Nice. Thanks for the link Ivam!

Yeah, I think this will help us make good use of the realtime renderer. :)

Oh that's cool Ivam.

Nice thread idea Froo. I hope to be able to add something at some point, but as it stands I'm fresh to this myself. ;) :D

Rendering an AVI file With RealTime Render

- an alternative program is VirtualDub

Increase View Range

sometimes it can happen that objects dissapear if they far away from the camera/eye position. This is set by the Far Clipping Value.

Best would be to write a code that adapts this value dependent on objects.

Unfortunatly for now we can just set the fix value.

To do so enter a camera or the EyeCamera (if you don't have a camera in scene) and change the ClippingFar from 1000 to 10000.

More Bitmap Settings

For some people surely nothing new but the Bitmap Input brick has some helpful settings.

Useful are the UV adress mode settings Clamp, Wrap and Mirror.

Generally the mode "Wrap" is set. That means the texture will be repeated at scaling.

Mirror is similar like Wrap just that it does Mirror the repeated image.

Clamp uses the images outer pixels for repeating.

Border is similar like Clamp just that it uses the custom Border Color.

I used clamping for the penguins black dot in the eye for example.

So I can alter the size of the black dot just by scaling it there the texture won't repeat the black dot but the white outline.

Hadn't found a way to use custom mipmaps yet (DDS textures that store mipmaps directly and allows for custom changes) but for those who want more detail from textures especially leafs and textures with an alpha that has fine details it's more pleasent to dissable the mipmapping and use supersampling instead. Of course it's slow so I recommend it only for still images ;)

Here the comparison:
