I'm on doing a Flash game using TS with toon shaders, probably the Flash plugin to get outline lines,.. the problem is i really suck placing lights.

The character art is hand drawn so the renders need to look 2D


heres one i did earlier, it only has a single light below the bulb on the ceiling, so things like the staircase lower looks very flat and the wall edges aren't defined.. plus the aweful round circles on the ceiling

I'm using UV toon BTW


Where is the best place to place lights with something like this?

If you just want to add a little ambient light to pick out the details to avoid the flat bits, have you thought of putting an IBL around the scene and setting the brightness quite low (and, of course, making sure shadows are turned off)?

It does make a vast improvement thanks.

I spent weeks messing with lights with the bar images in my Flickr gallery and i never got them right. :rolleyes:
