I'm struggling to paint a simple object that's been encapsulated. It consists of two parts, and I can't seem to manage to put two different surfaces onto them.
Paint Over Material, selecting the subobject and hitting Paint Object, no matter what I do, both parts get painted with the same material. Yes, I've turned off material instancing.
(They came into the scene surfaced with two different materials... but now insist on sharing just one material.)

If I copy one or the other subobject, it remains part of the original encapsulated group...and doesn't become an separate object. Bug or feature? So trying to break the objects out of encaps and start over should be easy but is instead just frustrating.

So I have a couple questions... how the heck do you 'unencapsulate' an object(s), and if that's not possible (why not) how do you get different surfaces onto subobjects that have already been encapsulated?

You can check in (to encapsulation) anytime, but you can never leave?

Select the encapsulated group and hit the arrow down key on your keyboard. That way you select the individual objects of your group. The selected object is highlighted and you can change the texture any way you want without afecting the other objects. It works for me.

I also would like to know how to de-encapsulate. Going back to Modelside is not very logical.

See, that's the thing, drilling into the hierarchy by hitting the down arrow key, selecting the subobject and then painting it paints BOTH objects, no matter which one is 'selected'.

Something this simple shouldn't require programming!

I dunno, "maybe it's just me".
