First pass at the Sponza Atrium GI scene rendered in tS with VRay. Lighting is a single area light & GI. Only post processing was a crop and resize of the image, nothing else changed. The slight graininess is a result of my poor choice of VRay settings - next step will be to cure that and try and get the bump maps working.

Looks great so far, I noticed on the top of the arcs on the left side there is a black area where it comes to point. Can't wait to see this one finished if it isn't already:D .

Yup, I think that's a geometry error, but then it's not my scene, just the public domain Sponza one.

Yes, the vertices from the arc and the wall are not connected which results in an open face.

Looks great. Maybe another camera angle from ground to the sky or alike?

Bobbins what was required to get this scene to work in trueSpace7?
I went to http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/rendering/xsi_gi/
and downloaded the file but it will not load into trueSpace.
I would like to use this scene as a tutorial for using Vray.

This link gives some nice examples of pics from the scene.

If you poke around Google you'll find the Sponza scene in 3DS, DWG, DXF and OBJ formats. They are a lot more tS friendly.

Thanks a lot Bobbins. I'll do that. When I did a google on this I only got about 10 hits. Will try again.

More formats than you can shake a stick at of the Sponza Atrium model can be found here, along with the texture maps:

Hope that's of some help.

Thanks for the link. Bobbins pushed me to look harder and I found that link about 20 mins ago and I'm now doing my first render. Now to figure out how to add the maps and all. You realize what am amateur you are when you start playing around with this stuff.:o

Bobbins could you or anyone else who has the knowledge point me in a direction as to how you take the model and apply the maps etc., with links to tutorials etc. I have got the model in trueSpace but obviously it does not come with maps applied. I tried painting the maps on but I am going nowhere. It would seem to be a major job placing all the maps in the right place. Is this correct.

Some formats import without maps - best thing is to try OBJ, this seems to be most succesful at importing with maps intact. You may want to use the free LUUV plugin (part of the tS6.6 install) to load it in too.

Note that texture paths are general specific rather than relative - ie if the model was saved as C:/Sponza/ on the original machine, and you install it to C:/trueSpace/Downloaded Files/Sponza then the textures will not be found (or may not be found).

Usually you will be told if a texture can't be found and asked if you want to find it - say yes, and go to the location of the texture. You are then asked if you want to add that path to the texture paths, say yes, and tS will find remaining textures automatically as it now knows to look there if it can't find the texture anywhere else.

One of those two approaches should get you the scene loaded with textures intact.

HTH!

Same render settings, but a lower viewpoint looking upwards as requested. I'm having difficulty with the bumps maps - not sure if they are actually working or whether I'm imagining it.

I just loaded the .obj file an the textures dont seem to come in with it..

Does anyone have a .cob version of this file they would be willing to share to save me a lot of newbie mapping hassle?....

I wonder how many people noticed how good the lighting in this scenes is. I am grabbing the image for my private collection.
