Back in the day, GameSpace directX export allowed us to specify if we wanted the export to include the full file path for the images or not. Ansi box checked off when saving a scene as DirectX, the file is still binary not ansi, so I can't modify the path for the output textures, this is a problem.

Since I can't control what is in the binary for the file path for the textures and I can't easily open and modify the X file, I can't tell it how to correctly find the images for the textures from the X file. I usually export my models into the X format and then move them around, after they are moved, the X file no longer can find the textures which is bad.

So I have a 2 fold request.

Add in the checkbox for full path or not.

Have asni working so that I can read the X file with Notepad.

You can already export so that you can modify the X file in notepad. The option is called text :)

And with that selected or not, it is still binary.

Thus my post about ansi format not working :)

So it remains as a wish list item :)

Could you please recheck that you really have chosen text. Because it works fine here.

As you can see in the shot, the text version is really text. And not Binary. The second shot shows the binary result. As a note, even here is the texture path editable.

In case your as text saved result really turns out as binary, would you mind to test it with another model then?

Sure thing.

Here are a few screen shots of my own so you can see I have the right options selected.

I have now tried this on a few different models, result is inconsistant. Only 1 of the 3 ended up being an text file, the others all came out binary. *shrugs*, I'll keep playing with it.

Now that is really odd.

Hmm, does a Reset to default context help?

Nope

I can't find a pattern as to when it works vs when it doesn't.

I have gone as far as removing TS completely and re-installing it.

Hmm. Problem is, you need a pattern, something reproduceable, to find out what causes it. Then there is a chance to fix it.

Is it object specific maybe? Does one specific object always export as Binary? Would you mind to share this special object?

The main object is a purchased model i can't share unfortunately. I'll type up the specs of it tonight and share that data.

just checked this - always wondered how it works. I inserted as a .x and then used the export. opened it and it was fine. opened in notepad and it was text.

was just a simple cube. nothing clever.
