I guess the title says it all, is there a support email where I can email the model in confidentiality so that you can take a look at the model and see how to get it loaded into TrueSpace?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt you will be able to get personalised service like this from a free app. There are people here who may be able to help you.

The problem with dx is that there are different versions and different file types (binary, compressed etc.), which can affect your ability to move a model between apps. Also, I'm not sure but I don't think truesapce's dx importer has been updated in a long time either (the exporter is current though).

Maybe you can upload a non-secret model exported with the same app here and someone can look at it for you.;)

The irony.

I "own" TS 7.1, purchased it for like $700~ at one point.

So the free program vs support for paid programs.. well.. what a bonus I get out of this new model. I've paid for GS 1.6, iSpace, TS 7.x, a few other things, so I was "hoping" that coming to the forums there was still a place for support for such problems. TS 7.6 brags about being able to load any character, well this is a character in X format, I just need to get it loaded in. DirectX viewer by Microsoft has no problems loading it.

Unfortunately for me, the modeler that created the model for me hasn't responded yet, I have asked that he give the model to me that I paid to have created by him, in a different exported format since I don't know the tool he used to create the model in.

I am really not liking this new "free to all" concept they have, you might be right, "free to all" might have just meant less support, but I seriously doubt that considering the track record of Caligari. They have a GREAT team of developers. I just figured there was some sort of email I could use to send in the model to get support still.. Well, I am hoping to hear from someone in house to know if something like this exists.

Thanks though, I hope you are not right.

Hmm, i cannot remember any statement that support was cancelled. And you might notice that Tom for example replies very often here at the board.

Anyways. Loading X into TS was always problematic. I was once told that it is not meant to load an X model back into trueSpace, even when possible. Just to export it. That counted for 7.01 Modeler when i remember right. And is also valid today. Workspace can't even load X at all.

TS 7.6 brags about being able to load any character

Um, where?

I know gamespace wasn't too good at importing dx files either. I used fragmotion to get my gamespace creations elsewhere, someone else here uses uu3d to get his models into FPSC from workspace (Froggy?).

Anyway, tiles knows better than anyone about this stuff.

I remember Tom saying this somewhere, maybe it was just phone support?

Support hasn't been cancelled - it has moved to being forum based primarily though.

Unfortunately we can't help here, as this is a model format issue, not a tS issue, and if support extended to taking a model someone had trouble with and working out how to load it, we'd never get anything else done :( This is not due to the change to tS being free, the same would be true while tS was commercial. Getting into file type conversion, and fixing individual ones (especially in something with as many "flavors" as X) would become a full-time job.

You'll need to look for an app that can load the X format and then resave it, either to X format again or to another format. If you are paying for a model from someone, then I would say you have the right to specify the format it gets delivered in (I'd go for OBJ as the most universal at present, and the one tS works best with importing), and you have the right if it is delivered and you can't read it to request it in another format.

If stuck and unable to find a free convertor that can load this particular X format model, best bet would be to put out the call here on the forums for someone with a paid exporter who will try to load it and resave it for you.

HTH!

Answer is good enough for me.

I am back to working with the modeler and having him do the conversion.

This will get ironed out one way or another.

Thanks Tom.

No problem, sorry it's not the sort of thing we can't get involved in ourselves, we'd just get swamped though! I hope it all goes well.

Thanks!

Tom
