Hello

I can't set any keyframes in truespace 7.6.....it won't let me.

It worked fine only once, but next time I started truespace again it won't let me allow to set keyframes.

The only way it works is, if I uninstall truespace and then reinstall it again.

I hope that some of you experts can assist me to fix the problem.

I'm running truespace on Windows Vista Home Premium (2GB Ram etc and graphics card is OK, also Vista rating is at 3 but I'm running another 3D graphics software very fine).

Big Thanks in advance if someone comes up with a good solution.

Workspace or model side?

In workspace right click the record button when you have an object selected and you can set the properties that you want to record changes for. Like the matrix data or the various sliders that the objects start with etc.;)

Hope that Helps!:D

Please send along more info, and we can help! Lots of questions arise

1. Workspace or Model side?

2. What is your workflow? Eg select object, set keyframe location, move object, press record. What happens, does no KF appear? Could it be no object was selected on pressing record?

3. Some screengrabs, or even the scene, may be useful - in particular, seeing the panel for determining what can be keyframed could be useful.

4. You say it won't let you set keyframes - is this with the same scene? Only in scenes you load? In any scene, including a new one? What happens if you empty the scene in tS, close tS, and restart (so there is no scene loaded on restart)?

Thanks!

Tom

if your on workspace side doing animation, then try clicking on story board tab first before you record keyframes.

Then SELECT you object before you click on keyframe, or it will not record anything.

Then advance the timer indicator on the time line to a new time, and record the second keyframe. You always need 2 or more keyframes before any animation is going to be recorded.

After you have at least 2 keyframes, you can click on play to watch it.

Hello

Thank You and apologies for my late reply to your responses

I work in the Model Layout as my graphics card is a little too slow with the Workspace Layout. In the Model Layout there is sometimes the time slider in the trackbar missing and sometimes it's back, when the time slider is visible, however, sometimes I can not key frame even when right-clicking on the record button.

I installed trueSpace again and made a backup of the default configuration and put it in the configuration library. It helps but sometimes not.

I noticed or at least I think, that, it has something to do when the update from Workspace Layout or Model Layout is set to Off, but I don't understand it why that is.

I am still learning and watching all the video tutorials to get some hints what I'm doing wrong (soo many videos, but very very good).

I like the trueSpace very much and highly appreciate that it is freely available for people like me who are on a very low budget.

Thank You.

Be sure not to swap back and forth between the model and workspace side if recording in the Model side. Also be aware that if the bridge is off, then things created in the workspace side will not exist on the model side.

Once ready to animate, I would stay in the model side and do everything I need there (moving objects, editing objects etc). I've not explored how it works, but I think it would be risky to make a workspace side change to something that had Model side keyframes (since the workspace side does not know of those keyframes).

Why animate in the Model side would be my main question - the workspace side is much better, and you can render from the Lightworks engine in the Model side once you have the keyframes set in the workspace side. Any particular reason you have chosen to animate in the older Model side?

Thanks!

Tom

Hello Thomas

I really do like the workspace layout and everything just looks very good, but my graphic card is not good enough as moving around is very very slow :(

I thought my laptop is great, but not great enough for trueSpace realtime features. So I have to go along with the model layout.

Is there a way to turn the workspace layout completely off?

Maybe then trueSpace runs faster?

The real load of graphics card resources falls within the 3D view. If your layout contains no 3D view, the graphics card will be ok and your machine will run as fast as possible. Not sure what all the specs are on your machine, but on model side, you can set display to OpenGL or wireframe as well as directX api's. You can test to see which works best for you.

Hi

my system specs are

Windows Vista™ Home Premium

FUJITSU SIEMENS - ESPRIMO Mobile V5535

Intel Celeron 2 GigaHertz

DirectX 10

RAM 2 GB

SiS Mirage 3 Graphics - SiS672 series - 312 MB

Monitor - 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)

How do I turn off the workspace layout to make trueSpace run faster?

Norm, do you often do your 3D without a 3D window?
Man, you really are good.
Is this a serious suggestion?

You've got to feel the force, Luke!

I think Norm means "D3D window" - the realtime DX6 Workspace display. It"s my understanding this takers a good graphics card to run but you can also change the way workspace displays to use older types of shaders (sorry I forget the appropriate abbreviations just now) which don't place as many demands on the graphics card.

This should allow you to use the workspace for modeling and scene set-up but won't show things like realtime shadows.

I think that's right anyway

Hmm if you are looking at a Model window instead of a Workspace window, you have essentially removed the burden on graphics card in this regard.

There are hardware settings for Workspace side/window that allow you to lighten the burden as well. The image shows location of Hardware Settings icon on little toolbar and the resulting dialog that appears. Shading Quality allows you to drop down demand all the way to DX7 Basic functionality, while other settings allow you to adjust other features down as well.
