I seem to get a lot of fatal rendering errors and I was wondering if there are problems with the render engine that 7.6 uses? I have ATI radeon 7000 card could that be my problem? Ironically, 7.6 was working pretty good for quite some time, but lately it crashes every time I do a scene render and shuts down. Should I just uninstall it and dod a fresh install. Thanks, BNG.

Have you tried resetting to default conditions? Double check the pdf manual on this.

The fact that you say it was working until recently seems to indicate an error has crept into the personalised setup on your machine.

Try deleting the default.cfx file then restarting. Once I have a setup that is working I make a copy of the default.cfx and if some crashes start occurring I revert to my saved version. (It might mean I have to reload some newer library addresses but that's about it because I stick with the standard layouts.)

You dont say if this is with scenes that used to work but now crash (without them being changed), or if it is only particular scenes or scenes you ahve just worked on.

Bad geometry can cause render engines to crash, so if it is a particular scene or recent scene or object, perhaps there is something there that is causing it, rather than in the software.

Let us know!

Thanks!

I'm having similar problems, I can add a sphere and render it, try for the second and 7.6 just gives an error and shuts down

if i try and save it restarts with the previous project..

I have a Nvidia card and i can't use the DX tools, only wireframe, after about 5 minutes the workspace freezes with the DX tools, if i switch cameras it'll go back to normal

anyway i'll try what Burnart said and reset the config

Still no better, but it will render with scanline and not crash

Since i got this PC i've had loads of issues, even on a XP partition i seem to be plagued problems which must be down to the video card.. its really annoying considering i used a cr*ppy intel card on my old steam powered pc for years, at least it rendered.. eventually lol

Seems like the best bet is to reinstall 7.6. I lost a few models in the process, but no biggie and the program began working again.

Also, I noticed that disabling the save state box will help in the future as if you don't disable it and an error condition exists the program tries to reload the same faulty settings preventing the program from staring as usual.

Another suggestion I'd make is to send in the crash reports via email to Caligari as their tech peeps analyze the reports so that if bugs are the cause of the issues then Caligari can create patches to correct them as 7.6 supports updates via the internet in the programs menu options. BNG
