Hello, I'm trying to use truespace 7.6, when I attempt to manipulate an object, (move, resizing, etc..) the mouse jumps allover the screen, and makes the program unable to use, my system is as follows:

HP s3400f,

Windows vista (32 bit)

AMD 64 X2 5200+ 2.7 ghz

4 gig ram

NVIDIA GeForce 6150se nForce 430 (latest drivers)

500 gig HD

42inch Westing house HDTV monitor

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the video and mouse drivers and updated them to their latest versions. I have no idea on where to go from here, please give me a direction in which to go to resolve this problem

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Ron 3

try turning off the grid snap - could be that...

Your problem also seems to be duplicating your threads...;)

If it is really jumping, sounds like a driver issue. If it is just jerky..then probably the grid snap.

Do you have amy conflicting programs, try turning off an Anti-virus...

Another thought...is this workspace side? If so, you have quite a weak card for realtime (sorry!) It may be that you cannot handle the scene smoothly. Go to the hardware settings (far right of toolbar) and try DX7 with textures.

See if that helps....:D

It seems to be a problem with my vid card driver, I disabled the device and loaded TS7.6, the problem with the mouse is gone but I can't render with out the card enabled. If I enable the device then reload the program I can render but the mouse problem comes back. It will only let me move along the x axis if I'm resizing an object and if I try to move the camera or object it goes leagues out of the intended area but I can't move it back only forward. Is there a set of generic drivers that can be used?

Did you try changing the hardware settings?
I have a mobo with an inbuilt chipset (a 7050 chipset) and I thought my PC had crashed when I ran tS. Popped a card in (7900GT, now a 9800GT)...WOW!

Same with my laptop, can hardly move an empty scene around on default settings but nice and smooth in DX7....
Worth a try anyway.

As for drivers, check the HP site. You should also be able to find out what mobo is in there then google the mobo maker and see if they have newer drivers.

According to Nvidia, these are the latest drivers:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_winvista32_15.01.html

They are WHQL so I guess the most reliable for your chipset.

A fellow teacher? Hope you have told all your students to get tS now it is free...:D

I think the settings will really allow you to work better on that chipset. Mine was a Nforce 6 chipset and it was useless so you might struggle with a Nforce 4 .

Good luck.

Blimey, you plan a whole week ahead? I tend to work a few days in advance at most!!!

Well I'm not a real teacher... yet:D I'm currently working toward a PHD in English Lit, and hopefully a second in Philosophy, I also teach Karate (Tang Soo Do, to be precise) I mainly do 3D stuff to keep my self as close to sane as I can, Right now along with taking 12 credits, I'm co-teaching an English 101 class, and a Woman Studys course. I'm still trying to figure out how I got talked in to the former. I dled the drivers you posted and still no joy, asap I'll start fiddling around with the other settings you mentioned. Thank you again for you help, and please forgive a noobs double post :-)

Well I did everything you said, but its still not right, the only way it worked was by deleting the drivers and running it with out the card working; doing that fixes the movement problems but makes any rendering useless and shrinks my overall picture to half my screen, are there any hacked or generic drivers for my card out there?

More than likely, this is what you'll need to do:
-Re-install your original factory sent GeForce driver....You must follow my directions for re-installing the GeForce driver explicitly....You DO NOT uninstall and re-install the latest driver from the HP website.......you must follow my directions for factory driver re-installation in "Recovery Manager" (which I've noted in the "New Users" Forum, as stated below ) !
-Uninstall Quickplay....(This too has a detailed explanation in the same area listed below).

Read my last 4 posts under the "New Users" Forum with the title "Help ! TrueSpace not working right !"
I've detailed HOW and what was necessary to improve the HP performance issues........I'll bet it will solve your problems !

never mind. The tips I gave were for improving performance on that chipset, but would not help if you do have an actual hardware or driver issue.

Still, good to know for when you get the kit sorted!

First I'd like to thank everyone for their help, YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME; unfortunately It looks like the only way to fix this is buy getting a new Card, even the tech support from Cailigari can crack this mystery, any suggestions on a moderately priced card?

Sorry to hear about your problems Ron. I am curious about something however:
I'm running the exact same GeForce 6150 driver as you are, and I don't experience any abnormal problems. I also don't require a gaming card to boost performance for trueSpace 7.6. I noticed you talked about updating your GeForce driver (uninstall / re-install etc...). Did you try my options as listed in my previous response:
-Uninstall (remove completely) Quickplay
- Go to Recovery Manager and re-install the original factory installed GeForce driver (and do not update it) ?

Yes sir, Mr 3d I did, step by step. I also tried renaming CalDDraw.dll, and removing TS, doing/following your instructions then reinstalling TS :-/ still no joy.

I'm at a loss ?....Except that I have a touchscreen tablet and am running 64bit, I pretty much have the same set-up as you. You have, however, put your computer through alot of twists and turns. Do you notice any new abnormal problems with your computer's performance (besides with trueSpace) ? If so, you may want to consider backing up all of your documents / etc and do a full system recovery. After doing the recovery, you still should remove QuickPlay / and do not update the driver. Also, don't let the computer automatically install your updates.......choose which ones you wish to install. Also, turn off your "System Restore" points, as this only stores points in time for your troubleshooting options, it uses up HardDrive space, and can make a backup of viruses (which you definitely don't want).

The Workspace side does have a slower responce to commands than the Modeler side. When you select your Omni light, your pointer is replaced by the represented icon. I only use the workspace side for character bone movements and extra lighting......then I flip back to the Modeler side.

**I don't play games, so I don't have a separate graphics card. I understand that the NVidia 8600 works well, and this will probably give you the performance you seek.
As far as my previous information goes, I hope it helped with getting a better understanding of your computer.

I can vouch for this - I have a GeForce 8600GT with 512MB of onboard RAM and tS Workspace rocks along very responsively on my Dual 19" Monitors.

The 8800, big brother of the 8600, is now available in some flavors for $90 or so. Enormous bang for the buck at that price range. You might find you can shave $20 or $30 off going for an 8600, but might be worth just that extra money for that extra power.

I find any card less than $150 to be "reasonably priced" so you may want to try one of the bigger 8800s, or maybe even a 9800 if you can go up to that sort of price bracket.

HTH!

Tom

EDIT - PS be sure you're power supply in your PC can run those cards, and that you have the required power attachment from your power supply too. Best to be sure you haven't run out of connections from your PSU! And that it's the right type too.

Not sure about the US Tom, but in may cases here in the UK, the 8800GT is actually more than a 9800GT...same with the 8600. So, really (unless it is a US thing) there is nothing to recommend an 8 series over the 9 series unless it is one of the overclocked, supercooled, larger memory version.

I bought my XFX 512mb 9800GT for £99. Next to it was an overclocked 9600GT for £30 more even though it has almost half the rendering pipelines.

Next to that was a 8800GT, 1GB for £150.

Of course the Ati HD4850 for £111 was very tempting but I really didn't need to fry an egg on my case...;)

A lot of the lower power 8600's don't even have a separate power supply...but the 8800/9800 need a PCI-E 6 pin power supply.
