First a bevel on the top face

Then select the inner face and use sweep selected Faces (not Dynamic sweep)

Point is, the memory of the flat bevel is carried on into the sweep. Not expected.

I've noticed that myself.

My quick tutorial on making a top wall may help you out a bit... Don't know

The memory of the bevel should not be carried into the sweep,

or,

there should be an otion to reset sweep memory

I just use dynamic sweep instead.

Both sweep tools are good. Not always the one above the other.

Please make a memory reset option, Caligari :) (if not already)

Hi Leif,

I think this is actually intentional.

If for example I wanted a sweep to continue in the direction of the surrounding faces then I would use the sweep, as it saves having to modify the sweep when done. If I wanted to simply sweep in the direction of the selected poly normal, then I would select Dynamic sweep and just click the face.

As simple example, pic01 shows a cube with a draft angle, I want to sweep and continue that draft angle, then I use sweep pic02, if I wanted the sweep to be normal to that selected face, then select dynamic sweep which gives pic03

If it's intentional then an option to reset would be an intelligent move as the Dynamic Sweep tool isn't much use in 4 view. It works in 4 view but unless used in the actual 3D view it doesn't update the other windows until after you release the mouse button so it's guess work where it'll have swept to.

In the meantime, an exit and re-enter PE should clear the memory.

HTH!

Well I think I may have stated that wrong.

It seems the sweep tool does, as Stem points out, make sweep according to existing geometry (and not "memory").

1) cube, entered PE mode, selected top face (triangles are showing here)

2) rotate top face some degrees clockwise

3) exit PE mode

4) enter PE mode, select top face and press sweep

5) result

6) select bottom face and press sweep.

7) and 8) result

ok - just a thought here....

Sweep and dynamic sweep.

14604

I twisted the top face a bit, then used "sweep selected faces" on the top and "Dynamic Sweep" on the bottom.

so the dynamic sweep includes the old sweep functionality. whereas the sweep selected faces sweeps according to the geometry of the object.

The legacy sweep tools functions more like "Sweep selected Faces".

The manual calls the new sweep tool "Memory sweep":

Chapter3 Modeling - Workspace | 143

Step 4: Left-click on the Memory Sweep icon (4th from the left, above) a few times. After the first sweep, rotate and scale, then repeat the sweep 3 more times.

The sweep icon in model side has this panel 14606

The sweep icon in Workspace has no panel :)

Id just like a way to have a choice of how sweep is performed when pressing icon. Wether following geometry or straight out or flat or what :) instead of using mouse and point click drag out and drag back in . Its a workflow / personal preference thing really...

The sweep icon in Workspace has no panel :)I am hoping that an option panel will be added, even if only for the offset, as currently the offset distance is based on a % of the previous geometry.
