Anyone know whats causing this?:

I've selected an area with the soft-selection tools, pulled it upwards and then flattened it but i've been left with that transparant mess around the edges of the object.

I've tried a few times to do this without getting that weird 'transparent' area on the plane but it always seem to happen when i render it with vray. Rendered with lightworks it's ok.

Planes are often odd beasts. What happens if you use a cube instead, doing this on the top face? Do you get the same results, or does it remain solid as you'd want?

I am guessing this is a normals and single / double sided issue, which the cube should cure if so, but testing would be good to see.

Thanks!

That was fast Tom, thanks!

I followed the same procedure with a cube but i quad devided the top to get the resolution i needed. it worked fine, no transparency.

However, i tried it with both single and double sided planes and the transparency occured with both.

I tried re-faceting the normals before rendering but it made no difference, they must be fliped somehow when you do this.

I'll report it and see what makes it happen. Meantime I hope the cube will let you achieve what you need to do? BTW what happens if you make the surface using the cube, then delete the other 5 faces, effectively leaving only a plane - does the problem appear when that happens, or does the resulting plane actually "work"?

Thanks!

Tom
