i get a big dialog after starting the program (which would'nt install until i got rid of a trojan).

"windows error code 2" etc. another code was 199. do you need the whole text? said something about the rendering engine.

i'm on win xp with a gforce 5100 (i think) card. but both Studio and Bryce work fine.

i also tried installing an old Hexagon version. after starting, it's screen is half off the monitor's screen.

so i can't use either....

hope there's an easy fix!

Hi Zop. You need a 6600 or better nVidia card to meet the minimum specifications to run TrueSpace 7.6. :(

The graphics card you mention would be underpowered for running tS7.6, though it would be surprising if it stopped you loading the program (but not impossible). We'd need the whole text of the error message, plus more details on your system specs would be good too.

You could try running tS7.6 under compatibility mode, some people have had luck with that, no guarantees though.

You might also try holding CTRL and Shift and then running the program, this will bring up a dialog box - try changing to Wireframe or OpenGL to start up see if that makes any difference.

If it does load, you'd most likely need to change the Hardware Settings to use DX7 rather than DX9, to help workspace perform at all reasonably.

ok, something is wrong as usual.

here's most of the text;

thread R_renderthread: failed to create any D3D device (hal or ref).

3d engine cannot continue on device without 3d acceleration.

code file: .\D3D renderer\rs d3d

windowedthread.cpp

code line:199

windows error code:2

i'm on xp pro

5.1.2600 service pak

system 32

a gforce fx 5200....

i think this should be enough. tho i'm only at 512mb of ram. doh. still, it should at least load.

>>>>>>>>

along these lines, i tried to install hexagon 1.2. when the initial screen comes up, it's half off the monitor. i only see half of it. now this happens on two different systems!

the gods don't seem to want me doing any of this.

hope you can help.

It sounds like you have no DirectX installed, as Jack says. This means tS is not able to generate any real-time view at all (even for Modeler side) and so won't run.

Definitely try installing DirectX as the next option. If that fails, try the CTRL Shift to start up and try the options there.

Also, some of the best answers come from the community as well as from here at Caligari :) Given how many hundreds of thousands of users there are out there, they are more likely to run into any and every scenario than we at Caligari are, so their advice is often from direct experience, and just as good as what a Caligari staff member can give :)

would you('s) know where i might find a segmented download of this direct x version? my isp cuts me off in the middle of large downloads. of all things...yawn.
also, why does one need direct x? i've got studio and bryce which run fine. i had the impression it's something to do with compatibility.

The programs you mention almost certainly use a different system for getting things to display on your screen via your graphics card. Direct X is a method of displaying graphics on your screen that works very quickly (if you have the appropriate hardware). It's my understanding that DX is the display technology used by many top games.

I recommend that you google DX9 - there is undoubtedly a WIKI page and many other sources of info that will tell you what you need to know. If you are going to be computing in the future you will almost certainly benefit from having a basic understanding of what DX is all about as more and more programs begin to use this technology.

DX9 is the built in 3D graphics support for Windows.

Here's the download link:

i did'nt think this would help. when i open the prog now nothing happens. no dialog, nothing. hexagon still does it's half screen thing.

now i suppose i'm going to have to get the uninstaller (as i hear bad things about directx). i'm hoping carrara might be a bit more friendly. thanks tho as i was actually able to download it; not easy with peoplepc.

Hmm, since its part of Windows, not sure what bad things you may have heard about it. It's essential for many (most) games etc. Some 3D apps (modeling etc) use OpenGL, but most games don't. So you may want to just keep it installed.

Sorry to hear it didn't fix your issues. Did you try the next step of "If that fails, try the CTRL Shift to start up and try the options there."? Let us know if those different options let you get started up!
