Could someone be kind enough to explain the use and results of the LE Export option box, when I right mouse click on an object in LE window.

Using the default settings as yet I can't find where and what it is exporting to. I assumed level 1 implied it exports UP 1 level, but when I look in the higher level it isn't there. Also what's the aspect option referring to?

Apols if this is daft question, but as you probably realise I am somewhat technically LE challenged.

The reason I ask is I wonder if this can resolve a problem I have.

I built a nice skeleton and spent a fair amount of time setting up limits etc. At one point I had this bound to a mesh, but decided it needed more work, so unbound it for simplicity. I unbound then saved the Skel (as a skel) to library. But now when I bring him into a new scene although the usual object nav widget is available, moving him as an object is impossible he won't move as an object in any direction. In Le when I look he has no transform widget associated, which I suspect is the problem.

How to get a transform associated with him. Am wondering if putting a cube in the scene and exporting transform from it so I can add it to skele might be option. I also wonder how to Copy a transform node in the LE window, as ctrl C copies the skeleton not the node even when the node is selected. Is using export from another object the answer, or if not how to sort my problem?
Thanks
IK

Hopefully I am not mistaken when I say this was used (past tense) to determine what aspects of an object would be able to be viewed by someone using truePlay instead of trueSpace in a SharedSpace env. You could setup an aspect to be user friendly and export it instead of the default or expanded tabs. Not sure if this is of any value at moment but could be it will be used again in future.

IK: Just as an experiment, I held the CTRL key and clicked-and-dragged on the title bar of a block within the LE, and when I released the mouse button I got what appeared to be a copy of the original block. (I did it with a couple different types of blocks, including an object's Transform block.)

Unfortunately, when I tried moving a duplicated Transform block "up" one level in the LE (out of the original cube and into the 3D space as a whole) using the 'un-encapsulate object or unglue' script object (which I believe was created by trueBlue...?), I just get an error message. (The script object works well on "normal" objects, but I guess the Transform block isn't something that's movable in this way.) So I don't know how I would get the duplicated Transform block out to the "rest of the world", and then into the desired target object. Perhaps someone else could offer a clever solution...?

Export parameter determines how many encapsulation levels above the actual object that it's panel will still show in the panel tab of the stack view when the object is selected.

I use that for my "Mapped" materials. That way when you click on the object the material is applied to, it's panel shows up in the Stack for easy editing.

Edit:
@Jim, you can CTRL drag your duplicated transform brick to another LE window at a different level or save it into a library as an RsObj, then drag it into the LE level that you want.

Oh, cool, Jack; that will prove very useful in a number of ways! :) (Never even considered dragging between different LE windows; should have thought of trying it on my own. Oh, well.)

IK: Given what Jack pointed out above, I placed another object's duplicated Transform block into an object from which I had previously deleted the Transform block, and then hooked up the new Transform block's Matrix, OwnerMatrix, ObjMatrix, and WldMatrix to the appropriate hooks on the side of the LE window (mimicking the Transform connections for a normal, unchanged object). With luck, you can try this, and see whether it gives you what you need. Good luck!

Excellent, thanks for the help guys.

As an aside, Jack when I click export on any block in LE, without changing any default settings, I have never seen the block or "channels" show up in the level above (which is what I thought should be happening).

Will use the 2 LE windows ctrl drag method for now, so thanks for that useful tip, but intrigued to know where I am going wrong using export, any suggestions? Never realised even transform nodes can be saved to a library. LOL as I said I am LE challenged!

Cheers

Keep in mind there's a difference between exporting the panel and exporting a property. If you right click on a property and export it, it should show up on the next level up, but sometimes it'll have a generated name like "float,1".

Exporting the panel is about having it show in the panels tab of the stack, and won't show any different in the LE.

Ah Now I understand. I always thought Exp meant, Expanded. But it means Export(ed). Ok. If that's in the manual, um, I didn't read that part.

Nah mate - 'Exp' means "experts only understand this" ;)

I think the confusion comes from the fact that you can export a specific attribute up through LE layers, you can Export an entire panel to the Stack view AND you can Expand certain attributes (Matrices, Matrix's etc).(Like you I thought it meant Expand as well.
