I think I have seen a similar thread to this but with reference to different keys?

In Pe I have set up the following hotkeys which to me are logical.

e select edges

shift e add polygons

ctrl e add edges

But for some strange reason after setting up the shift and ctrl hotkeys, using either hotkeys seems to activate add polygons, AND with ctrl e selected (add edges) the behaviour is actually adding polygons?

To add to the confusion both shift and ctrl are highlighting the icon for add edges, even whilst adding polgons. Bit confusing eh. Strangely after first setting up the hotkeys everything DID work as expected, but on the second click the oddity began and has stayed ever since.

I tried deleting the appropriate lines out of the xml, saving and then re-inputting the hotkeys with a TS restart as a another elimination step, but am stuck with the odd behaviour. When I recheck the xml the correct hotkey assignments are still as I set them.. it's almost like somewhere they are being over-ridden by another setting of higher priority, although not the very first time used, strangely... but I can't find it :(

Bug or any suggestions?

yesterday I was setting up a hotkey to hide the toolbars so wanted to use TAB. I keep the xml open in the editor and save, try them awhile before closing. then like you it was trying to do two tasks so I realized TAB was used to hide the edit widget. Thought TAB Q would work for widget but it still would hide my toolbars too, so changing the edit widget to Q worked.
oh my TAB works great for my toolbar hide now its the only one using it.

Probably better not to delete the entries, just change the key it uses. As for my endevor TAB was not accepted by the shortcut window so I used BACKSPACE to set it up then went to the xml editing the edit widget entry and my new toolbar hide entry.

E already is preset for select edges so that should work regardless.

just tried SHIFT E for polydraw and it works
CTRL E for add edges worked

so maybe you have a double entry on the xml or the value was not saved. try closing ts then opening again to ensure that the value has been set.

Cheers Stan.

Am running outta keys here lol, so trying to streamline things a bit, another 20 keys would be handy :p

PS The hotkeys for both Ctrl e and SHift e are now back working sporadiacally can sometimes get 4 correct tools in a row then it goes pear shaped , then maybe 10 attempts later all ok for 3 clicks.... very odd. The highlighted icons rarely show the correct tool as in use even if it has selected the correct one with the hotkey

I may have been editing my post while you posted so check my post. SHIFT E and CTRL E both seem to work as expected, highlighting properly.

Hmm wonder if there is an interaction with customised bits n bobs I have.

Maya nav for mouse, Steinie nav widget, unencapsulate etc etc.

Oddly after last post I checked for default hotkeys in case there was a conflict but neither Ctrl or Shift e are defaulted to anything.

widget shortcuts seem to be kept in the widget not an xml. your maya mouse or steinie widget shouldn't be clashing, but maybe, did you add commands to the steinie widget? if not it only uses -+ [] keys, you can narrow down your search. does maya mouse use those commands? did you hotkey the unencapsulator too that should be on the xml?

check again if they don't have two entries and different keys set to the same shortcut too. that seems to happen

Maya nav uses Alt plus mouse keys. Currently I have +- set to SDS levels without any hiccups. Although using the steinie nav widget, which as you say has +- for sizing, as I never need to size it/ I just middlemouse move it, I haven't had any probs there. It appears to be specific to just the ctrl/or shift and e key.

Will have a check for double entries in the morning. Long day watching Vid Tuts, reading the manual, brain fried now.

Thanks for help, will keep you posted.
