I'll try and explain this first. I have taken a cylinder and copied it. Then made the copy smaller but taller and then boolean subtract it from the original to produce a ring.

I then add a timer and a binary operator to multiply the timer then feed that into the roll of the expanded matrix of the boolean object.

When I do this, the object rolls about an outer edge.

If I take the same timer/binary op and put it on a torus, it rotates around its centre.

Am I doing something wrong?

I have tried flattening the history and tried the axis tool (nothing shows).

Any help would be great. thanks.

I would say it depends on where the axis of the object is.
I would suggest to recreate the scene. I noticed you exported some items from the ring to outside the space. Not sure this is helpful so reason why I suggest to recreate.

By default axis is in center of the object, so the torus is correct. The ring is what I believe was "customized" in the axis dept. I could not access the axis on the ring, which was second reason to suggest recreate.

I fixed this by switching to Model and normalizing it's Axis.

Yeah, the export was an accident. However, I did create a new scene and was seeing exactly the same problems.

Thanks blue. This is a simplified model of what I was trying to animate so I'll try that and see what happens.

Ok, I tried this out and I did get it working after several attempts. When I attempted to normalise the location, entering co-ordinated to reposition the objects caused them to go absolutely crazy like the points went and chose something random, increasing with every attempt. In the end it did work though.

I am wondering why this happened - both the centering and also this weird co-ordinate thing. Is there a reason for it messing the centre up and also is there a way to fix it from workspace?

Anyway, Thanks again blue for the fix.
