Has anybody gotten this problem before?

For some reason, when I try to render the scene to screen or an object, it opens the render to file dialogue and sometimes I can't even use the 'render object to screen' option because it is greyed out?

is it a bug in 7.6?

when i open and render the same scene in 6.6 it renders fine

is there a work around or solution?

Which render engine are you trying to use and are you trying to render from the model side or the workspace?

From the workspace side, unless you have vRay, your only option is 'render to file'. Virtualight and Lightworks render engines work on the model side.

Definately the model space, tried both Virtualight and Lightworks, no difference :(

hmm... they're working for me.

Ok, I'm going to assume that you're using the render icon at the top of the screen and it's drop-down menu. If you have virtualight selected as your render engine and right-click on the render icon does the virtualight properties panel open?

If it doesn't, follow the steps Here (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=73567&postcount=21) and see if that solves your problem.

Some users have experienced a bug with virtualight that seems to then affect the other render engines.

I do remember checking the virtual light properties before but will check again, can only check tonight at home though :( don't think it is this since it happens with Lightworks as well... :(

theuns, it would seem you selected render to file in the modelside render options toolbar. set it back to 'render to screen', then your 'render current object' will work again. hth ;)

alrighty, let me have a quick look tonight, will let you know tomorrow but it sounds like it might be that since I've been fiddling with everything in my explorations and might have mistaken that icon for the normal render icaons :)

Thanks Stan :D

you were right stan, the icons looked the same as the actual render icons so i assigned shortcuts to the wrong icons and then when i clicked the right ones, it was already set to 'file' ;) different icons might have made it less confusing though :)

anyway, still had a problem with virtualight rendering, when i render a scene, it shows progress calculations in the status bar but when it ran through them all, nothing happened on screen... lightworks works fine though :)

have another strange occurrence with objects being scattered, rotated and even scaled to different places on the scene after certain key strokes, but i'll post that in a different thread for further discussion...
