Ok I love the cloth stuff..you can make a table cloth real fast like with it...but my question is..once you get the table cloth where you want it..can you save the mesh in that state? All I can get it to do is the simulation and that is it.

Check out the video tutorial I made here:

You have to check the "continue" checkbox on the Physics Engine panel in the link editor.

I can get it to work pretty good..at this point I can't seem to be able to delet the fixation point and reposition like you do.

The fixation points are toggles. Clicking on the yellow widget when in fixation mode should unselect it, turning it green again.

Hmm...can you click off of fixation mode and bring it back up again..or do you have to stay in fixation mode..it seems that when I click off of it I can't go back

Even though the widget is relatively large it seems like you have to click exactly at where the vertex is. Looks like widget sensitivity area could be tweaked.

Also I noticed that you can't select interior vertices even when in Select All Elements mode, so while not really bugs, definitely room for some UI improvement. ;)

getting the mesh of a cloth is very easy and it is beautiful to see it happen. But how can you use the mesh further. When you render it in Vray it is full of artefacts that will not go away no matter how you tweak vray. I tried flatten history but that makes it completely disappear from the render, although the mesh is still visible

is this related to the problem with the keyframing or is it me?

Oh...it looks like you used a double-sided plane for your cloth. The draping causes the backsides to show through. Try it with a single-sided plane.

If you then need to see both sides of your single-sided plane, you can go into scene settings unter the settings tab and 'show back sides'. :)

That solved the problem! Thanks a lot, Heidi.

Hi

I have just downloaded V7.6 so am very much a newbie, I am trying to find as many tutorials etc to help me learn the programme.

I looked at this video, I opened TS to try to follow but couldn't find any of the commands menu's etc to follow along.

Any chance of a video of this but right from the start, so I can go to the right menu's and commands and learn as I follow along ?

thanks

philip

If you're completely new with the program, the best place to start is with Jack's Organic Modeling course. It's the fastest way to learn your way around the interface. :)

Just click on the "Training" button in the navigation bar at the top of the webpage. BTW, all the courses are free.

That video shows the locations of the icons used. What isn't clear in the opening is that he started with a primitive plane and used the properties panel to add 32 segments on each side. He then right-clicked to make it an editable mesh.

The manual goes into both cloth and wind and their property settings. They're in Chapter 10 (physics). Cloth is on page 38 and Wind is on page 47.

Trust me, this will all be a lot more clear once you go through the Organic Modeling Course. :)
