tS 7.6 was working fine until all of a sudden it starts crashing on startup. Rebooting doesn't help. Any ideas? I've sent in the crash report.

You can try holding down CTRL when you click the TS icon and then check the box "Use default configuration".

I did. No change -- it still crashes on startup.

What is your graphics card and operating system?

How about your computer system?

My computer is a Dell Vostro laptop, Windows XP SP2, Intel T9300 Core 2 Duo, 3 GB RAM, 256 MB nvidea GeForce 8600M GT graphics card.

tS 7.6 was working just fine earlier today and I haven't made any changes.

This sometimes works:

Navigate to your tS7.6 directory using any file program such as Windows explorer

Inside your tS7.6 directory is tS folder, open that up

Navigate and find the default.ctx file and delete it

tS will automatically create a new default.ctx file with a new scene next time it is started

Please let us know if this works.

And or you can delete these 8 files and tS7.6 will recreate them when loaded.

Vostros have a problem with defective video cards you may want to see this:
http://direct2dell.com/one2one/archive/2008/07/25/nvidia-gpu-update-for-dell-laptop-owners.aspx

There should be chipset updates for the motherboard unrelated to the video card problem as well.

HP has the issue in some of their laptops as well. :(

Mr. Bones, what's your hardware? Very odd that it was working and then isn't and that a clean install doesn't fix it. That points to an incorrect TS registry entry or a hardware issue. Unless Windows auto updated your video drivers though windows update.

Yeah, Jack, I know about the defective G86s -- that news came out about 1 month after I bought it. I'm holding my breath waiting for the failure -- and I'm not going for the bandaid Dell is offering (turning the fan on more often).

Noko and trueblue, thanks. Deleting default.ctx did the trick -- I'm back in business.

It was working fine, the only change to my hardware was I installed an Maudio card that used to be installed. Deleting ctx didnt help me.

@Mr. Bones, could be an interrupt conflict between the MAudio and your video card.

Does the problem go away if you take the MAudio card out?

Potential problem with GPU's on Dell Laptops

NVIDIA GPU Update for Dell Laptop Owners
Fri. Jul. 25, 2008

Earlier this month, sites like Ars Technica and ZDNet blogged about NVIDIA’s statement regarding a potential issue with some of NVIDIA's Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) used in notebooks. According to NVIDIA, these affected GPUs are experiencing higher than expected failure rates causing video problems. Though this issue is not unique to Dell, some of these affected GPUs are used in certain Dell laptops.

A blog from direct2dell about the GPU problem. It lists the product name on the page.
