I've got character basemesh. I modelled pant legs that I want to union with the basemesh. When I do this, the foot of the leg that had the pant attached to it dissappears. I'm not sure what's going on. |

Show a screen capture if you can. Boolean may not be the best way, there are other tools to join. |

Steinie is right : it is better to join the parts by drawing edges. Boolean may create unwanted vertices that could lead to bad shapes when animating. |

If you want to union them, without actually attaching geometry, you can use encapsulate objects in 3d which will group them together. I have no idea why just a foot would disappear, very odd, if you are able to supply the model here on the forum I can take a look at it. |

Right. Here's the setup

The leg and foot are one object. The pant leg is a separate one.

The result of a boolean union. Strangely enough, this doesn't happen with the other leg.
If there are any unwanted vertices caused by this, it would be easy enough to weld them up, right? |

I'm no expert, but the first thing that came to me, (which doesn't really fix the problem) is cut the model in half and mirror. It's a work-around - sorry if this doesn't help.

Booleans are designed to work with solid objects so you can get odd results when booleaning an open mesh. If you cap off the top and bottom of the pants that should help.
Also if you don't want to add the extra geometry or change the geometry and are just looking to merge the two meshes, try using "Merge" mode for the boolean tool. |

The pant leg is a solid object swept from a polygon. But this doesn't seem to be working, so I'll try the edge drawing. That's under the Point Edit tool, right? |

Yep. Poly draw tool. Definitely my most used tool. ;)
BTW, you should contact customer service and get that mesh to the devs so that they can test it and see why it's not working as expected. |
