Quick Question - can you install over 7.51 or do you need to install a fresh copy. I know you have to remove and reinstall VRay first...

Its better to install to a fresh directory.

7.51 and 7.6 can coexist on the same machine.

thanks

OK, so can you just copy libraries across and reattach them sort of thing?

You can copy the libraries across if you like. Or you could just create a new Library Place and point it at your old libraries, letting you have both co-existing.

I think its better if you:

1. uninstall old vray first (there're a new version and you dont need the old one)
2. unintall your old tS7.51 or keep old tS7.51 (if you worry can not remmember all your work place on your disk)
3. install tS7.6 on new folder
4. install New VRay on tS7.6's folder.
5. bla... (use or enjoy your new tS7.6) :D
6. bla... (migrate your old files to new tS7.6) :D
7. bla.. (other works for make sure your ready for uninstall you old tS7.51) :D
8. if you didn't uninstall old tS7.51 on step number 2: -->uninstall old tS7.51 several months later after you move all your work on safely folder or until you no opened for several months.

HTH. ;)

Yup BrotherX it is indeed faster

Also you have material instancing available as a feature now under the advanced aspect for the Material Editor. That will allow Materials to be applied to heirarchies faster and give smaller file sizes.

Yes, 7.6 is faster in almost all departments, as well as more stable. You should see everything from faster work in dealing with scenes, faster interface, to faster physics, etc. Quite a lot of optimising went on.

Have kept 7.51 and old Vray, and installed + 7.6 and New Vray.

Running sweet without any problems!:D

Small install issue with PDf and vid, but see my other post for solution.

Now I just have to start rummaging around to drag my custom libraries over (except for layouts which I gather are not compatible)

They're not? Worked fine for me - I just loaded my old layouts library and opened my favourite dual screen arrangement - everything worked a treat except tS 7.6 couldn't find the 7.6 libraries which is hardly a major drawback.

Wizard you might not get any new icons like boolean showing up using an old ts7.51 layout..better to start anew..:)

I copied over many files from tS7.5 and somehow lost a few of the new tS7.6 icons.

Fresh install time...works every time for me....:D

A good point on layouts. They will load, but they will load old toolbars with new tools missing.

It is highly recommended to rebuild your layouts to avoid this possibility. One for the FAQ if anyone wants to forward to the guys and gals in charge there!

Is mentioned.. old Layouts are not supported in 7.6

Most of the tools on 7.5 toolbar are re-maded so are not compatible..
Maybe windows but im not sure, the best to have all working is create all again.

Not to mention that old layouts also mess up VRay panels.

Right now on my PC, I have:

6.6 with V-ray

7.51 with v-ray

7.6 with v-ray

and they all run just fine.

for my 7.6 I pointed my libraries to the 7.51 directory so I can just continue working with what I had there.

Thanks for the advice guys but so far I've still had no problems using my favourite 7.5 dual screen layout.

I've just added all my 7.5 libraries to my 7.6 library browser and so far have had no problems at all.

I did load the layout from the library rather than from the layout tabs - dunno if that's relevant.

I'll keep an eye on things to see how it pans out but everything seems perfectly stable and fine here.
