Hi All, I'm close to completion of my space sim (dark basic classic platform) but need a fairly low-medium poly spherically mapped sphere. Incredibly for something that should be so simple, I'm having a lot of difficulty creating in TS 7.6. Below is the process I've gone through but can someone tell where I've gone wrong?

1. right clicked on the sphere icon and selected longitude 64 x lattitude 64

2. left clicked on the sphere icon to create a 64x64 sphere

3. clicked on the checkered blue and white sphere for spherical mapping

4. clicked on file -> save as .x

But when I import the .x object into dark basic, then texture it with .bmp or .png file either:

i) The texture is not centered properly because the object is not perfectly centered

ii) The texture doesnt work at all because (I think) the spherical mapping has not been applied properly and the texture is being applied 64x64 times to each of the polygons not the sphere as a whole

iii) The texture works but the sphere .x object is not centered properly. i.e. when I rotate the sphere it rotates around an axis that is not its own and makes it look like its in orbit around a sun rather than rotating around its own center, if that makes sense.

Sorry for requesting an answer to something that is so basic but it is really important to me that I get a lower poly sphere than the one someone had 'donated' to me previously. Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Cheers,

Chas.

I don't think darkbasic yet has the ability to read the ts x format uv's correctly. You can purchase ultimate unwrap 3d for 60 bucks and it will correct all problems with uv's. Or try lithunwrap, which is free but I dont know if it exports x, but worth a look.
