I am trying to construct an application for a kindergarten project which can utilize 3D objects (x-files) created in TS7.

From a list of objects on a side bar an object can be chosen and dragged(?) to the workspace. Here one must be able to move and turn each object horizontally to arrange them in a given pattern.

The workspace should be able to be viewed from different angles (lighting behind camera as well as ambient light).

The result will be printed on a colour printer.

A bit like those useful 3D architect thingy programs.

Since it is to be used by kids and novices I can't very well ask them to use TS7 ;)

Anyone know of a freeware engine I can use for this.

Hi Ayath, are you looking for a solution involving programing?

Not everyone is a programmer or looking for an SDK. In those cases Flash or Silverlight might be more what you're looking for.

This thread here has a good list of SDK and open source 3D engines available if you're looking for something involving programming:

This project actually started years ago as a joint venture with my daughter. I programmed the user interface and she programmed the 3D workspace needed. The 3D bit was way beyond my programming skills and she came straight from university and Computer Science.

I bought TS5.2 for this project and created the 3D models she used in the workspace.

She got busy. Got a job. A boyfriend.

Now she doesn't have the time to spare for her old dad anymore :( and since I have gotten TS7 now I thought it was time to start dreaming again.

I think I might be able to pick up PythonScript as I have programmed extensively for Neverwinter Nights in the past. It seems to me that Pthon Script isn't that remote from C which is the basic of NWN scripting.

I'll check out Panda and hope for the best.

I might come back in these forums and ask a lot of basic questions.

I don't know, those kids can pick up things pretty quick. I'd be more afraid of turning them onto tS and then seeing them do things in days that I couldn't do in a year!
