No one purchased V-ray for a few months and they felt that it was not popular enough to keep around.

Just great.. as much as i hate to leave TS after I have spent so much time learning this software. At least Maya has Renderman and there are many other high end software packages that work.

yeah it bites.

For what it's worth, Workspace has the Realtime renderer; Model has Lightworks and Dribble.

A group of us is working on an exporter for the yafray renderer for Workspace.

And I am working on a script/plugin to call lightworks from Workspace, which is most likely best used with scripted animation from the workspace side.

Model side also has Virtualight, which does Global Illumination and Caustics, so if you are looking for those effects, all is not lost with your already installed version of tS. And of course we have all these other goodies coming along from our third parties here, so quite a lot of options are opening up!

But then some of us who recently paid the $$$ to get it would probably also feel cheated.

Perhaps we could do a vote thread to gather how many people would purchase the software as a one-off if Caligari would make it available for one more purchase? That way, at least, those who do not have it now but want it could get it.

It would have to be a one-off though. People would have to sign up to purchase it and then Caligari would sell it to just those people. And there would have to be a cut-off point. Perhaps a month to sign up.

If they could do that don't you think they'd have announced its withdrawal to gather those final sales?

Hi Kena,

It's just not possible - as noted the date for removal was the end of the financial year. Opening it up for sale introduces it back into this financial year, which is what we can't do.

For now, we will just have to accept with regret that V-Ray is not available. Meantime, lots of other new developments are happening as we've seen of late, so as one door closes, another three open! I remain looking forward rather than looking back :)

Probably no more than those who purchased TS 7 just before it went free. ;)
