Sure this has been mentioned before but I am curious (and a little vague about how such things work).

Now the SDK is released (even a first Beta) is it possible to write a plug in to allow rendering to Lightworks just as we load in the Vray .rsx?

Equally can that be done for Dribble and other renderers?

I am quite excited about the possibilities here, just wish I could program or script but I have 'two left feet' in that department.

Hope I am not completely wrong here...:D

Yes, this should be possible for someone to script, I would think. Just as the Dribble export was written using the old tS6.6 SDK (ie the hooks to the software), the same thing could be written now using the tS7.6 SDK to run directly from the workspace.

That is GREAT news Tom...I just wish I could write it rather than waiting for someone else to do it...:D

Now, do bear in mind it will take confirmation of that from an actual developer, I am in no way into the depths of the SDK to know what is easy, possible, impossible etc :) Just a caveat so I don't raise hopes inappropriately.

I don't see why it shouldn't be possible, so the news should be good, but I am on the outside looking in also. So I am looking forward to the various interested developers (all those who expressed an interest in the SDK were emailed personally this morning to let them know it was out) to see what they find is possible to do with it, and then maybe hear a few plans about what is being developed!

There are some old plug-ins from Model side that I'd love to see reworked over in the workspace (eg things like Dribble, Scatter, etc), so I just have to watch now and see which devs pick up on it and what they decide they can do with it... exciting times!

Thanks!

Tom

this is brilliant news, having a render engine capable of things like volumetrics in the workspace would be great

I wouldn't think it too hard once you figure out C++, ATL, the SDK and get a studio license and render engine docs as well of course...

HA..

Did consider taking a look at the virtualight engine for workspace but thought, who am I kidding - I can't even finish a 3D model most of the time...

I guess once you've written one render plugin, the rest should be reasonably similar.

There is always a catch. Will those render engines even be in the next version of trueSpace? (Since Modeler is going bye bye) If they are not included then we the user would have to buy the rendering engine before you write your code.

If they are included then we would have to assume Caligari Devs took care of that for us.

The good news is the alternatives on the Horizon (Jack, Simon, etc.)
