Hi Guys,

Is the version of 6.6 that is "inside" version 7.6 the exact same as the original 6.6?

If one were to install 6.6 again with SP's would you in effect have the same 6.6 as in 7.6 at the moment? OR was the 6.6 in 7.6 improved / bug fixed since the original 6.6?

Cheers

Aidan

7.6 has improvements as well as a nice new set of icons...:D

You also get HDRI support as well which, for me, is priceless. I also need access to Vray which 6.6 can't offer.

Best of both worlds really.

Hi Paul,

Yip I sure know all that. Maybe I wasnt too clear :D

I am going a bit retro for some TS modelling and access to some of the earlier TSXes. I have 7.6, I bought up to 7.xx. Here I was just wondering if I were to install 6.6 with SP's am I ending up with the same 6.6 embedded in 7.6 currently? OR has the "new" 6.6 inside 7.6 been improved beyond 6.6 originally?

I already use MODO and LIGHTWAVE and would be happy enough with the 6.6 / pre 7.6 version at the moment - lighter and leaner :D

Cheers

Aidan

Not sure how much more I can help here. As I said, there are improvements in 7.6 from the 6.6 core. Subtle but apparently they are there. That is what you seem to be asking...

I believe that nearly all tsx's will run as it is a slightly modified 6.6 core. The extras I mentioned are bonuses but I remember improvements being mentioned to the core.

Thanks Paul,

The words 6.6 core and improvements to the 6.6 core under 7.6 is what I was wondering about. Sorry, from your original post here I did not pick this fact up - you said "7.6 has improvements", I knew that - I suppose when you say 7.6 I immediately think the NEW PART, I was not taking the 6.6 core into consideration in your original reply.

I still look at it that 6.6 is a "plugin" of sorts for the newer workspace that is 7.6 ( to an extent )

That is probably the best way of looking at it; one big plug in which was to be removed for tS8. I guess all we have now is that big plug in attached to an unfinished concept.

If it helps, I did most of my work in tS6 but uninstalled it when tS7 was released and it never got installed again...:D

In a weird way, thats what I am talking about. If I were to reinstall 6.6 on its own again I then have TS without the unfinished concept to worry about .. you see my ssstttrrrange logic :D

Yup makes perfect sense...as does my technique of turning the bridge off so I get exactly what you describe but with extra HDRI, Vray and much nicer icons...

I have OCD; can't have two similar programs on my PC so it is tS7.6 for me as HDRI is great. When I sit at a friends computer I also empty their recycle bins without even thinking about it (apparently) so best not to take my advice...:o

7.6's "modeler" has ibl lighting for lightworks (Global Environment Map), and a cool Scene Material List in the material editor. It is also has a slicker 3d view (i.e it's more responsive), and when it crashes it crashes to the desktop, no BSOD. ;) It also has nicer icons.

Apart from this, some plug-ins don't seem to work properly (motion studio I think is one). And installing primitive itches' alpha hair plug-in isn't advisable (I get errors every time I shut down ts now, even though I uninstalled it).

Basically, it's better. Mostly.

The downside? It hints to what truesapce 7.* could have been if the tragic decision to turn TS into a web3d application, which has been the Somme for many software developers, hadn't been made. You can now add Caligari to the list of bodies buried there. :(

7.6 model-side renders to lightwave a bit faster.

Something to note - .cob files saved from 7.6 model side don't open well (if at all in earlier versions (tS 6.6 and before) which I think it because the bridge adds tS7.x relevant data that5 earlier versions can't deal with.

In reality once you move your work flow to tS 7.6, even if you only use modelside, you won't want to go back to tS 6.6 IMO.

I think you mean renders to Lightworks - you've been reading too many other threads....!;)

I still have tS5.1 on my work machine with TS7.6, and at home have tS4.3 and 5.1 on the same machine.... there's always some plug-ins I can't get to carry over properly.... and as I can't run 7.6 at home, I still use 5.1 and 7.6 routinely - often building items at home in 5.1 and bringing them to my faster work pc to render in 7.6, taking advantage of the added hdri etc... I love the material list feature too, that's great...

Look at it this way. If you would consider installing tS7.61 (if it were released) because you knew it had a few tweaks and bug fixes then the same mentality might apply to using tS7.6 over 6.6. That is if you can live without one or two tsx's not working.

Oh, turn the bridge off, close/minimise all workspace toolbars etc. and use a 6.6 layout too for the ultimate non-workspace experience.
