Now that we know there won't be any future trueSpace development, I think it's important to gauge the willingness of users to buy plugins. Since new functionality can still readily be added with the SDK.

To be honest Jack I was expecting that MS would back burner TS and slow the development substantially. In that state the community would have been the harbinger of future success had we simply been informed that this was the decision. I think many of us would have gone the extra mile to undertake this type of support.

Unless there is some sign of opening up the source, or at least some mechanism to continue distributing new licenses, there is little hope that TS will be viable as a commercial product. Those of us who have it will likely continue to use it for what we can but with no new users in sight it is unlikely that the current user base would support significant commercial efforts of the scope of Yafaray4ts.

What is left is a labour of love for those who wish to enjoy it.

Personally, I bought Visual Studio so I still plan on tinkering under the hood. And yes, I will likely continue to use TS for some time yet. I have to earn the money to buy the other pieces of the pipeline somehow.... :D.

Just so you know, the last time I bought a compiler to work on a product I thought was a lot of fun it was ..drumroll... OS/2 [lure of a flat memory model]. I seem to really like MS castoffs.... hahahahaha

(Note to MS, I still like MS stuff too, so don't get me wrong.. :) )

Yeah, that's my worry. If it's made open source then that would be a whole 'nother ball game.

A lot depends on Microsoft's next move with regards to the source code and distribution rights.

Short term, I'm leaning towards going ahead and setting up the plugin developer community since there going to be a fair number of users that will need support until they can transition to new software. But I don't think there's enough time (or commercial viability to justify the effort) to create a nice custom template and setup any more.

@Jack... if you set up the community the good thing that may come of it is creating a community that works well together and can get things done .... whether the projects are TS, .... or not...

I for one would be interested in that...

With over 10 years of assets buit up I have no choice but to continue using tS so any improvements etc. would be a welcome addition. Count me in...:)
