For those of you who are using daz studio plugin ANIMATE for Poser and Daz characters (I bring those characters in to Truespace) things just changed big time. New version ANIMATE "PLUS" is really mind boggling for the $74.00 price (Daz Studio is free). Advanced keyframing, layering, blending, cutting, modules, bvh import, graph editor, collada export, MORPHING!, etc, features ... giving MotionBuilder a real big run for MotionBuilders $4000 price. Here is link ..

Hi Noko, You will be glad you did. I have never seen such an improvement in an upgrade. Its like they wanted to copy all the features of motionbuilder and more (morphing etc). If possible update us as to what you are learning and I will do the same as I learn all the new features. :jumpy:

Doesn't truespace do this already? I thought NLE was one of it's strengths, especially with bvh files?

I was having a look at animate and couldn't really see anything that truespace doesn't do already. What am I missing, is it easier to use or something?

No, there are things ANIMATE PLUS can do that would be harder in Truespace. Truespaces anim clips can be dragged and moved and blended but it is not seamless and takes alot of tweaking.

All Animate Plus animation clips are blocks (you can use the premade blocks or import bvh clips and make your own blocks) like Truespaces anim clips. These blocks are dropped in the timeline. They can be dragged smaller to make the clip go faster or larger for faster (cut and trimmed and reversed too). They can be instantly merged to start at the beginning of the next clip. Try in Truespace and add 3 or 4 bvh animation clips. Then try to have each one start at the exact same place (feet must match up perfectly with each newly added clip) as the next clip. Really is not easy (I have spent so many hours on this). But in ANIMATE PLUS (MotionBuilder works same way) it is all automatic. A flip can blend right in to a walk then right in to a dance then into a jump INSTANTLY. You can within 1 minute drag 10 motions in the timeline and each clip will blend exactly to start where the last clips 2 feet ended. Graphs, layers, easy keyframing, morphs, make it all super fast. Plus, the very best feature is the hundreds or thousands of Daz and Poser characters made over the years (many are free public domain) that work instantly with all these motions. Then when you export those from Daz (bvh is sized perfectly with your exported character) it comes together in Truespace perfectly. I do everything else in Truespace but getting incredible content and adding alot of complex animation to it quickly is very easy in Daz (even beats Poser now in my opinion). Truespace is still number one in my book as the funnest most creative software.

p.s. did this in just a few minutes awhile back with the previous version of daz animate and then to truespace ..

@jhowell - that sounds pretty cool. I didn't know that truespace had those issues, to be honest I thought that animation blendeing was one of the things it did properly. I've got little interest in canned motions, but this sounds like it may come in handy for a potential project I'm considering - I'll definitely have to check it out. :)

Daz really have their act together at the moment, I hope they continue this form and fix Hexagon.

Hi MrBones, I have spent time with http://www.animeeple.com but I can not get in to not having many characters available (versus hundreds or thousands in Daz and Poser) and having to pay for each bvh clip you use via their store checkout. Even though they do offer a few to get you started everything else is marketing and sales. I would rather buy lots of bvh clips from you (like I have) and download hundreds of free bvh clips from the web (like I have) and go the Daz/Truespace route.

Right, but you can use Animeeple to create animations to render on Daz characters. It uses blocks just like Animate, except its free!
I also run the new animeeple youtube for them, there are some new videos here http//www.youtube.com/animeeple Hope they help someone out.

Ok, here is my continuing review of the new Daz Animate Plus. Great add on for Truespace. As a pretty good motionbuilder user I can appreciate this new updated plugin to the free Daz Studio. I have been using it last few days and Iam finding out more advanced features. This is much more than a CANNED MOTION utility. It has many of the advanced features of motionbuilder (and easier to use). Here are some things I have noticed ...

I will go over a couple of the ADVANCED FUNCTIONS BELOW:

1. Non DESTRUCTIVE animation layers..they call it LEVELS (this is why I bought motionbuilder several years ago). Anywhere in your animation, you can change your figures motion. Changes can be added to additional non destructive levels that will add below the base levels. If you want to remove that change later on, just delete that level. You can take the bvh amim modules and tweak them all different ways adding to as many levels as you want. Levels 1-14 are for adjustments to aniBlocks. Levels add in their effect. Each level is evaluated individually and then combined. So for example, if you have a walk aniBlock, you can add 15 degrees of bend to every keyframe in the base level by adding a single 15 degree rotational keyframe on level 1. The adjustment's influence can be limited/blended in by placing zero keys on both sides of the adjustment.

2. TRACKS and SUBTRACKS. Another very advanced feature also available in motionbuilder. Sub-Tracks can be mixed with the Parent Track in 3 different ways.

Add (aniBlock extended influence)

Override (aniBlock extended influence)

Override (aniBlock limited influence)

Add

An "Add Sub-Track" combines the values of its aniBlocks with the aniBlocks of its parent-track. So, if an aniBlock in the the sub-track bends the elbow at a 45º angle and the aniBlock in the parent-track bends the elbow at a 45º angle the result will be an elbow bent at 90º angle. An Add Track uses "aniBlock Extended Influence", which is explained below.

Override

An "Override Track" tells its aniBlocks to ignore the parent-track altogether, so whatever you have in the sub-track overrides the parent-track animation.

3. Graph Editor. Amazed this is another feature. Grabbing and tweaking keyframes in the graph editor is a breeze. See picture below.

4. Morph blocks and Audio blocks are very cool. I need to work on figuring out getting the morphs in to Truespace.

Anyway, when done all is baked instantly and imported to TRUESPACE. It may take me days more to discover the many more advanced features of Animate Plus.
