Hi folks

I'm looking for an online photo album package for my website - so far I've tried 4 or 5 but each one has it's limitations. I'm hoping to capitalise on the vast knowledge you all have and save myself some time.

Here's what I'm after:

A free php image album which will allow me to display my art in anything up to 20 or more different albums. It should be customisable to suit the look of my site (most of them are anyway) and should have the facility for visitors to comment on each picture. I'd prefer a Captcha system to prevent spammers.

I'd prefer to avoid using mySQL database but I'll learn how to use these if required.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be most appreciated -

Thanks

Wizard

Thanks Teamonkey - I guess I should have mentioned I've already been to Google and searched under exactly those terms!

I've tried a few of them but after having installed and then uninstalled a couple I thought it may be easier to ask here if anyone had any recommendations. So far I've found a few good ones but they are either way to powerful for my needs or not quite powerful enough!

There's lots of good stuff there but I'm trying to avoid having to work my way through the lot of them.

Thanks again.

You may want to check out the various JavaScript frameworks out there, for example:

http://jquery.com/
http://www.prototypejs.org/
http://mootools.net/
http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/

JQuery has several photo gallery add-on widgets available so that may be your best bet. :)

Do have a look at jquery and the others... If you want something you can customize easily I have attached a couple of rough html pages with some css. I use these as templates for very simple (read quick and dirty) photo presentations. There is a multidimensional slide show in demo_index.html. It is essentially made from a script from javascriptkit.com... I added some code at one point to have 2 dimensions... Think of a presentation of Ford Cars and Trucks... one cars vs trucks.... one ford vs lincoln.

The second file is a simple proofsheet presentation.....

Neither will require a database as they read the files from a subdirectory.

You can either add this to your site as straight html pages or embed the code in php.

The multidimensional script will require you keep a notice from javascriptkit.com in the script the rest is me and anyone is free to use it.

If you have any questions please ask.

No problem. You'd be surprised how many people don't use Google first.

I hear ya-sometimes you can have too much information so as to make it less than helpful.

Thanks again.

You're welcome and good luck in your search.

Thanks very much for the suggestions folks. I'm currently exploring a rather nice looking option called ZenPhoto - not only does it have a cool name it appears to do exactlywhat I want with minimal fuss - though I have had to broaden my knowledge about mySQL to use it.

I've noticed that ZenPhoto uses jquery and will look into that further as required.

V3rd3 - thanks for sharing your scripts - assuming I can iron out a couple of minor issues with ZenPhoto I probably won't need them but I do appreciate your offer.:D
