The trueSpace community currently has 2 regular community run challenges. These challenges are widely considered as one of the best ways to both learn and improve upon your tS skills and as such are open to all community members. The topics covered by these challenges are as diverse as the community itself and unlike some other forums, the emphasis here at Caligari is strictly about learning and having fun; that's also why there are no prizes on offer. However, the winner does get to display their challenge tally in their signature and is also awarded the honour of hosting the next challenge.

The first of these challenges is called the Speed Model Challenge (SMC) and it is where competitors are tasked to create a simple 3D model on the hosts chosen subject within a specified time period (Normally 2 hours). Some previous examples include: Chairs, Clockwork Toys, Phones and Electric Drills.

The second challenge is called the Monthly Modelling Challenge (MMC) and is where competitors are tasked to create a whole scene. Again, a subject or theme is picked by the host and generally competitors have about 3 weeks to submit their entries. Some previous examples would include: Castles, Characters, Dream Homes and Wonders of The World.

The full rules of the challenges such as entry dates and image size are posted each time a challenge is issued and there is always a fresh thread opened where you can ask any questions or seek any help or advice you may need.

The great thing about these challenges is ,because they are voted upon by the community, it is not necessarily the best looking model/scene that always wins. Voters are often swayed by an original or intriguing design or something that is thought provoking or funny and that more or less creates a level playing field for the competitors. In addition, because of the diversity of the subject/topic chosen for these challenges, they often push you to try new tools or techniques that you might not have had reason to before and as such provide a great way to learn and experiment with trueSpace.

Incidently, a third challenge has also recently been put forward by Kena and concentrates specifically on texturing a pre-made scene.

Voting

Voting for the current winning entry in both the Speed Model Challenge and Texture Challenge are currently underway and All Forum Members are actively encouraged to support these community challenges by casting their votes.

I always vote even if I don't play.

And now I see why I only have 20 votes for

The texture contest (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=8181). If YOU forgot it Breach, then I'm sure that everyone else did as well.

<sigh> and I was hoping to learn so much from this.....

Breech, I wish I had time for anything other than school stuff and getting my site up and running. I am due to finish a few jobs and I need new content as well.

Sorry, I can't help here...:(
