Hi all,

This Thursday, April 2nd 2009, will be the first Thursday of the month, making it time for Thursday Night Live! This takes at 5pm PST on that day, see the clock on the web page (the page has the link to click to fire up tS and join in the fun, too):

An exciting thing for this week - frootee is offering a copy of his Fluid Sim plugin as a prize to the winner of the Speed Modeling Contest in the TNL! meeting! Very generous donation, so I look forward to that live speed modeling contest with greater anticipation than usual.

This contest sees 2 people given 15 minutes to create a model on a theme voted for by those there at the meeting. The winner is also chosen by public vote on who has made the best model in that limited time.

I welcome nominations for anyone who wants to take part in the speed modeling challenge, and I welcome nominations for the theme too - remember, you have to be able to create it in 15 minutes! For either kind of nomination, just email me at v-thgrim@microsoft.com

And remember, the Fluid Sim plugin is a prize for the winner of the speed modeling challenge this week, read more here:

Thanks again to frootee for the generous donation of a prize for that contest!

Thanks!

Tom

Bouncing this one to the top again - tomorrow (at the time of this posting) will be Thursday Night Live!, this time with a prize for the winner of the speed modeling contest. Generously donated by Frootee, the winner will receive a copy of the trueSpace Blender Fluid Sim plugin, not bad for just 15 minutes work!

Email your suggestions for the modeling topic to me, I have 2 so far, Bird Bath and Sink (to fit in with the Fluid theme!). Final topic will be voted on by those at the TNL! tomorrow.

Also email me if you want to be one of the two speed modelers, both slots still currently open, so jump in if you want a chance to win a prize (and have a lot of fun in the process).

Thanks!

Tom

COOL Tom!

Those two ideas sound like a lot of fun!

Just a heads up folks; the flud sim importer plugin includes an extensive user manual, sample scene files, and an easy to use interface panel. The free stuff, which does not include the plugin itself, can be found here:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=7559

There are also tutorial videos available here on the forums:

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=7817

Feel free to download the free stuff; watch the videos to see the process of creating fluid simulations with truespace and blender.

The TNL! meetings are always a lot of fun.

I'm looking forward to seeing both finished models in the comp!

I plan to attend (I know I haven't shown up in the longest of time) and even if I don't win or participate I'll purchase your importer froo. ;)

I've never been to one of these. Can anyone attend? what do you actually do here, just speed model? or all sort of different things?

Yes, anyone can attend.
The main focus ends up being the speed modeling, but we do discuss a number of things as well.
Really just a place to have some fun and get to know other members of the community.

Don't think I left anything out, Tom?

Yes anyone can attend.
There is a fun modeling contest between two volunteers. They have to model an object (subject was voted on) in 15 minutes. Everyone votes for the best model and this Thursday the winner gets a prize.
The rest of the night is open for BS.
Sometimes someone will show a model they want to show however nothing is protected in shared space. So only place a model there you don't mind someone else grabbing.
Oh yes...shared space is workSpace world. So all tools used are from workSpace.
The best way to get there is going to "Birds of a Feather" and clicking the link to Thursday Night. (make sure you don't have trueSpace running) it will automatically load.
You can go there now to try it out, occasionally you'll bump into one of us.

Thanks Steinie, Robert, you covered it all :) It's all very informal, and we don't have a set structure other than the speed modeling. People are welcome to give tips, ask questions, talk about the weather, make bad jokes (something of a specialty of mine), and so on.

The space is in fact always open, you can visit it any time, we just have this arranged time for this meeting. You can always arrange a meeting yourself at any time, it should be there 24 hours a day any day of the week.

Anyway, for Thursday Night Live tonight (as I write), we'll see you there!

I ended up winning, my birdbath and little bird should still be up on blue pedestal.

I think Tom emailed you about it too.

Here we go, the bird and the birdbath.

As you can see I went for the Romanesque (that's an actual word!?!?) approach.

And clay like "Chicken Run" for the bird.
