It should probably be noted that neither World Machine or Vue pioneer are freeware. They're both non-commercial. Vue also has a watermark and world machine from memory has a size restriction.

Like PLE software I avoid these apps like the plague as they are just blatant upselling strategies. One thing I will give 7.6 is that it is freeware, not a sales tactic dressed up as a favour. Blacksmith paint (freeware versoin) is the same.

All that said, World Machine is reputedly very good, and is reasonably priced if you feel the need to own yet another terrain editor.

James, you really have to learn to take things in stride sometimes.

I like the direction of the tutorial. Have you ever tried to animate the textruemap? I was trying to do it in the LE but I was having no luck, I need to make an animation with some flaming fireballs moving thru the sky. I think the Blender fluid sim importer might work also but I want to try a couple of different ways.

Thanks.

Try this Rich !

It shows how to animate displacement... but is not very fast

so isnt realtime.... there are problems with that because its so deep in the structure that it doesnt work fast(thats what dele explained to me some time ago !). It works with offline renders though !

Well I think I will do some short segments of terrain modifying in WIP progress thread for Kena's train tex contest I started. Water, grass, trees, shading etc.. hmmm not sure how short that will turn out though:p.
