I have extruded some text (ARIAL) and I want to bevel the edges, but I notice with the letters, they are very blocky and not smooth on the rounded parts (for example, the letter "O" doesn't look completely smooth and round on inspection of the circumference). I have tried to subdivide them, but that doesn't seem to work and I have tried subdivision surfaces and that does not work either. Any ideas or suggestions? Maybe a better font?

Try with the max size for the letters before edit the text. You will have more vertices.

also you can use the "smooth quad divide" tool (model size) when you need to smooth more than the 'max size text" can do. Do that before bevel the text.

Its true what Marcel says maximaize the font and then scale it down but you will have to fillet every edge (pick one poly one by one with ctrl pressed)you cant just pick the face and run fillet that messes up the result !

You have to know the magic word....boolean fix!

Right click the bevel icon and increase the boolean fix nr. dramaticly to say 300 (100 = standard I believe).

Workspace side text may work better. You can add various types of bevels onto it automatically, and change the kind of bevel as a "live history" too. There's also live adjustment of quality. Most Model side tools you were "stuck" with the settings you used at creation, but workspace more often lets you keep adjusting those until you are happy (or keep them low for speed until you need your final render for instance).

BTW, I noticed that you get better results with the text if you use physically large dimensions when creating then scale it down after converting to editable mesh. For some reason there are precision issues if the text is created smaller than say 2.0.
