Hi, I was wondering if anyone could post just the most basic example of character animation within truespace( and the ts file please) and the resulting xna code. I am a noob at this and struggling to wrap my head around keyframe animationa and the .x file export and getting it into xna 3.0.

Ultimately I would like to create a character in ts, animate it / shade it etc and within xna, have it run jump and duck etc, when certain buttons are pressed. I have had a brief look at the xna skinning example, but they use a .fbx file, which ts does not support. As I don't really know the difference between a .x file and a .fbx file ( something about textures can be included in a .fbx file)

PS in the example vdiedos on this site, they use motion studio for ts, it motion studio for ts still included as I am unable to find it. If not, what else can I use to animated my character?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Stu

Motion Studio is Model side only, which means you'd only be able to use the old X file exporter on the Model side. It also uses the older (and a lot less friendly) bones system, and even though Motion Studio makes those a little friendlier, I am not sure I'd recommend following the route of learning the older side of tS.

For exporting to XNA, it's rather tricky, I'm not sure anyone has got the X format working properly. I was able to import into XNA but the character was distorted, then unfortunately did not have time to follow up in more detail about how that might be remedied.

The biggest difference between FBX and X is that FBX is actually a standard :) X format has many many "flavors" and "interpretations" each software making it a little different on import and on export, so that a lot of compatibility issues arise with it.

The XNA forums might have more advice on whether anyone was able to get skeletons working well in XNA from tS. Do let us know what information you uncover there - while it's something I'd love to follow up directly on, I simply don't have the time unfortunately.

HTH!
