Currently i have 6 animation programs that i can use for animating charactors.

I have......Characterfx/ Fragmotion / Blender / Puppeteer / ts 7.6 and motion studio.

I am tring to firgure which animation program i should be spending most of my time with.

i have no problems rigging with in CFX, but it seems to have its limitations when it comes to deforming the mesh.

Fragmotion I have the full version but it is poorly documented and havent got my head around it yet.

Blender the brain bender....I think that says enough.

puppeteer i've used with gamespace but had some problems with it.

I never used motion studio....or the 7.6 animation tools either.

I was just wondering what program/s some of the users here use for animtion.

I heard that fragmotion was supposed to be a very good program for this, which is why i bought it...it's just it is very poorly documented and there are hardly any tutorials for it.....which is odd for the amount of time this program has been around.

Depends of what you want to achieve. Motion Studio is still one of the easiest bones systems i know. But you cannot export the animation then ...

yeah i d/l the manual from another thread and it said it would'nt save unless it is registered. But was'nt motion studio made freeware? and it does'nt save the animations even now? if that is the case then there is no sense in having it is there. :) For that matter why make it freeware then ?

Im mainly looking to use the animation software for a character. CFX is easy to use... but i think it is better for mechanical animations then a character. but then I don't know every thing about it either. I heard fragmotion was very good for characters, but the documentation really sucks for it.

I know DBPro made support for the animtion system in TS 7.6. But again I don't know much about the 7.6 animation system yet.

the only two i have actually used before are cfx and puppeteer for gamespace, but puppeteer seems to be just as buggy to use as anything else in gamespace.

What animation software do others use here?

Of course it is free. No clue why it asks you to register something. Sure you have downloaded the right version from the webpage of the maker? There may be one of the trials around ...

If you're using Workspace side, you can import and export BVH, also X and Collada export from Workspace support bones animation. Dunno about the import into the other app though.

i've d/l the manual from another thread, in the manual it says it won't save unless it is registered. But when i looked where you would register it. nothing comes up for it. so im guessing it was removed from the app itself. But does that mean it will save now? It would be nice if it does sinse the manual seems to be quite explanatory.

@ Jack

DBpro has added support for TS 7.6 bone animations so im sure it will work to use it. I've played around with one of the models that were already rigged but at the time it felt weird to use and I did'nt even have a clue how to use it properly. so i havent played with it sinse. But now that im looking to learn all about animating characters. now is the time for me to take a closer look into it. I just want to make sure that when I start playing with the different animation programs that i am concentrating on using the one best suited for my needs.

If you're planning on using BVH, you'll want to use a premade BVH skeleton to rig your model. You have to use BVHacker or some kind of external app to scale the BVH animations before applying them to your model though. MrBones can give you more information on that if you need it.

No i plan the make my own skeletons and animations. I really do not think there are any animations out there for what im doing.

I would mention the project, but at this time it is a little more than personal and i am hoping to complete the project and get it in the game creators little store that they have.

I think I am the first person to take on the idea in the history of the games creators so I don't want to spoil to outcome or ruin the chance of making a couple bucks for it.

However when it is done i will be posting the outcome here as well, to show what it is exactly that i have been working on.. :)

Sure it does save. All you need to do is to save your scene. But be careful to be in the Animate tab when you save. Else you can loose your work.

Motion Studio was once a commercial plugin. And the manual was written for the commercial version. So no wonder it mentions the registering process. You have the free version of the plugin though ...

Yes I just recently downloaded motion studio, so im sure I have the right version.

it's good to know that I can use it, it would have been a bummer to learn it and not be able to save. the manuel for it seems well writen so im sure i'll have no problems learning it :)

Thanks to mrbones for setting me up with a video, I was finally able to learn how to use fragmotion too :) I was very impressed with it last night after playing with it. it's just too bad the documentation for fragmotion was so terrible, I might have learned it when i first bought it. But that's ok better late than never.
