... it maybe interesting for some of you...

I want to load the lightmap of Giles into the alpha chanel of Photoshop

to light up the texture map of the scene.....

I´ve come as far as making the maps in Giles and importing them into Truespace realtime and it works....

I think parva mentioned something about putting the lightmap in uv2. I'm not sure how this works, though.

Ok got it running now.... !

You got to export your model preferred a room with a uv map.

You set up your scene in Giles. Note that the new Giles 2.0 beta doesnt have

good documentation so you will want to look through the old versions help file.

Its very simple to set up you chose your object and in the light properties panel you ad an empty lightmap. dont foreget to choose the uv map as export option otherwise it will make angles on export. In the textures tab

load a new texture and in the materials tab assign the texture to the material

as layer 0.The lightmap is loaded into the material layer 3. You then set up

your light and set up your render settings. You now let giles render.

When you export your object now it should come out with your lightmaps as seperate file bmp. Choose the size 2048x2048 as your lightmap size before render you will need it in Truespace that large.

You now open up Photoshop and open the 2048 x2048 sized UV map and the 2048x2048 sized lightmap .You open a new alpha chanel in the uv maps channels section and select the lightmap from the other file and drag it into the alpha channel of the uv map. You now load the alpha channel and make your selection lighter with your ctrl l tool+ the opposite darker. You save that as a new UV and load it instead of your uv map.... there youve got a mapped GI

Hope thats clear enough if you have questions please ask I will try to answer them...

HTH !

Peter
