Is there a way to bevel in only one direction instead of two?

I often only want to create a cut out, outline, or indentation in a set of geometry, and going back and erasing half the created geometry, is a real waste of time.

Thanks, Rigel

The bevel tool has three style options which may prove useful, angle, height and inset. Have you tried these?

You can use the filet tool as a bevel tool to choose the direction. ;)
