Public beta has just been released for Yaf(a)Ray4tS v0.6.0. It is an exporter script that lets you render your tS work via the Yaf(a)Ray 1.0 render engine.
You can download it here:
http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=7782
Don't forget that you need to download and install the Yaf(a)Ray render engine first:
http://www.yafaray.org/download/yafaray
Enjoy, post renders and let us know if you encounter any problems. |

Vizu, Yafaray ist Workspace Only.
Hast du überhaupt schon Yafaray installiert? Das muss man extra installieren.
Don't forget that you need to download and install the Yaf(a)Ray render engine first:

1) do you set where is yafaray installed?
2) do you have a c:\Temp folder?
Hast du den Installationspfad von Yafray angegeben?
Hast du unter C einen Temp Ordner angelegt? |

I got your error messages the first time i have installed it. I needed to rechoose the installation path. Then it worked to render :)
Problem is that it installs with the path that contains the word Program files instead Programme. Which gives an invalid path for us german users then ... |

Nein, eins.
Hast du unter C überhaupt einen Pfad C:\Temp ? Den Temp Ordner auf C muss man von Hand erstellen. |

Klane Haserl haben kurze Naserl

Select the right location where you yafaray is installed..
On set C:\Temp\... Click on Custom Temp Directory
And Custom XML Export Files..
Don't change any location, just click on the check box.. im havin right now that problem (don't know why) and this may solve it..
And try if that helps |

Yah for the vray alternative, nice work guys! So fast to get it out as well, very impressive.:banana::banana: all round!
Ok heres the sting in the tail :p
Now I'm not into scripting, Le n all the techy stuff but heck I have been using computers since Noah invented the bbc micro and the zx spectrum rubber keys were thought a good idea? Selling my Oric was an act of sheer salesmanship on a par with trying to sell a return ticket for the Titanic the week after it sank! Then there was amos and my dearly missed amigas, stares out of the window with tear in the eye.
To the point...
I download the windows32 version and the qd file(or what ever it was called. I install qd without probs, I install yafaray it asks where the blender folder is? tried a couple of options Ie the TS main folder (lateral thinking or just plain dumb?), the ts scripts library, but heck can I get this baby to show up anywhere.... Nope. It aint a plugin for the manager so I can't load it that way.
Perhaps I am not alone in being technically cough challenged.
Any chance of a (complete) idiots guide (vid tut) to getting this up and running, as I am sure (well I doubt) that I will not be alone in this blissful state of technical ignorance out there in TS userland
Ps Yes I do have a c:temp folder, I still have Vray installed if that makes any difference. In my case ts is installed into d:\3dprogs\truespace\
Many thanks, and hopefully this may save others from having to admit just how much they have avoided scripts and the LE like me:p (give me a rigging problem any day)
Cheers
IK Handel
Big EDIT lol
OK OK so the install library shows up at the bottom of the libraries viewer even though it starts with "Y". that can only be described as quaint/quirky lol. Got Yafaray going but reckon still good idea to show step by step tut? |

I think that Yafaray install asks re: Blender because Yafaray is tightly integrated.
Yeah.. I would love the simple cave man's tut as well. I am trying to sort out one or two details to get renders out myself.

Yeah definitely a tutorial coming. Keep in mind guys this is a beta we've been focused on making the software. With the release being as late as it is I decided not to wait for the docs to be created.
@Vizu, something strange going on with yours. I'm not sure why it would want to copy to the .cmd file. The cmd file is the script that's already running. It's supposed to copy the yafaray.tga file to whatever .tga you specified in the output field...
About Blender, I thought you guys already installed that to use Froo's plugin. ;) |

Can you upload the XML file created by the exporter? It should be in the directory with your render unless you set up custom directories. This is likely and issue with the material name that tS gave it. Currently the material names are hard coded into the script. Eventually we plan to implement a more flexible approach. Looks like the geometry is coming through great though!
Also I'm going to work on a quick setup video later tonight. Hopefully that'll help people with getting started. |

jack I did not apply the shaders to all 130 parts of the car....
just the outside and the wheels and glass for the screens and headlights...
but still it should render at least these parts !
Heres the XML file that you wanted !
The geometry comes in well ! And it renders quite quickly too !
The custom own folder destination does not work it always renders
to the temp folder in the c drive !
The same materials on spheres work well !

Good greif. The XML files is 15mb lol. Looking at it now...haha Internet Explorer choked on it. Loading it up in Notepad++. I don't see any materials exported. I'll need a screen grab of the DX material node inside the link editor to see how it's named.
Or if you can get the file size down under 5mb or so you can e-mail it to my private e-mail and I'll take a look at it.
To use a custom folder, you have to check the checkbox above it. The render goes to the location specified in the "output" field on the Default tab. |

Would probably be good to know the pathway to the material node too. It could be something funny is going on higher up in the material.
If you only have a single material applied, it should be:
YourObject/Material List/Material 0/D3D material |

Looks like the exporter isn't finding your materials.
Can you post a screen shot of the level above the one you posted, and expand the bricks so I can see their values?
Odd about the render size discrepancy. Did you change the resolution values on the Camera tab or the Default tab? |

Could it be a case of instanced materials? This version requires material instancing set to none. |
