Iam always looking for free softwares to use with Truespace. Voodoo is free and can be used with Truespace 7.6 (on the model side). I like Syntheyes also, but that has a cost to it. I just did a couple quick motion match moving tests here. Really neat that you can use any picture or video and make it 3d to drop in your Truespace work.

The link goes to a forum discussion rather than the Voodoo download. Voodoo itself seems to be here:

http://www.digilab.uni-hannover.de/download.html

However, it seems from that forum discussion that it only produces Maya files, and a third party wrote a convertor to give Python instructions to move the camera in tS. The big however is, the links to that convertor all come up "cannot display the web page", making Voodoo unusable for tS. Do you have the link to that convertor? Or did something change with Voodoo since those forum posts (from 2005) that makes Voodoo directly compatible with tS?

PS - oh the third party is Frank Ladner :) Well he is on these forums, maybe he can give us the updated link to the convertor hehe.

Thanks!

Tom

That would seem to be up to team Caligari and the next release :D....

Sorry I'm late!

Yes, that is the correct link. If anyone has any questions regarding the converter, please let me know.

It is a tad wonky as I wrote it in a short amount of time - but it does work, and there are some neat ways to get around certain things.

...like parenting the camera and track points to a null object so that you can rotate the whole scene to be level with the floor plane. ;-)

Frank. When you say <<...like parenting the camera and track points to a null object so that you can rotate the whole scene to be level with the floor plane. ;-) >>. Can you explain a little bit more?

Thanks :)

I talked to the VooCat developers(a.k.a. Voodoo tracker creators) last year about adding trueSpace support. They sent me some demo scenes when they were testing it and the scenes seem to work perfectly with tS. But it only supports model side. I also requested workspace support but i have not heard anything yet. It's going for 99 Euro. It's not free but its nice to see some support in this area for trueSpace.

Thanks for the info. It is great to see support for Truespace. So Voocat is 100.00 or so and has Truespace model side support. Syntheyes (has Truespace model side support) and of course the free voodoo which has Truespace model side plugin support ... http://www.frankladner.com/vd2ts/ ...

Maybe Frank could let us know about if it is possible to have workspace support for that type of plugin. Since he wrote the voodoo truespace plugin.

Sure!

Basically, you select the camera and all the feature points, then glue/group them together (trueSpace automatically does this if you click the button with multiple objects selected at once).

Then you add an object (square, sphere, whatever you'd like). Set its shader to invisible so that it doesn't render, or otherwise move it where it will not be seen by the camera. This would be your "NULL" object. Glue the new camera and feature point object to this NULL object, with the NULL then becoming the parent, or at the top of the hierarchy.

Now with the new grouped object selected, you can rotate and move the entire scene, essentially. Once you like where it's at, set translation and rotation keyframes - which would be recorded to the null/parent.

Primary use for this trick is to align feature points with the trueSpace grid, to make animation easier. The camera is moved along exactly as the feature points are, since they are all part of this null parent, and the camera's tracked motion is not affected - it moves relative to the null/parent object.

Does that make sense?

Here's a little pictoral explanation.

This is tracking data from the "dredger" sample sequence that comes with Voodoo.

As shown in the first panel, the camera and feature points are usually way off with relation to the trueSpace world. Animating a character to this "crooked" or off-axis data would be very difficult.

In the last panel, things are lined up according to the trueSpace grid. Integrating a character into this scene is much easier this way.

Hope that helps!
