Just noticed that nVidia made the Pro (previously $1500) version of it's Gelato renderer free:
http://www.nvidia.com/page/gz_get.html

This is of particular interest to those who have Simon's Dribble plugin:
http://truespace.coolpowers.com/dribble/
Which can export RIB format from TrueSpace.

Heh, of course it'd be even cooler if we could get someone to integrate Gelato directly into Workspace side. ;)

I did not realize Simons Dribble exported rib, I guess I should have thought that... interesting.

Gelato is pretty interesting also :)

Jack !

Gelato is a comand line renderer. It uses a propriatory file format

but can be used to render rib also.

Do you know how... A short explanation would be cool !:)

I understand that a plugin called ribelato must be installed....

Thanks

Peter

I thought the limitation of gelato pro was that you needed a quaddro nvidia card, but I may be wrong. Otherwise, it's a nice renderer.

Yep.

Anyone wants to write a quick step-by-step tutorial to render a Modeler scene from Dribble ? :)

was messing around with it just now. Doesn't seem to like non-quadro cards, but it does have a (slower) CPU render option. I'm not sure if the non-quadro card warning prevents using the GPU though, so testing is needed.

I'm going to have to mess with this later though because I want to get some more work done on the Yafaray exporter while I have some free time. ;)

Getting to the rib file is not the problem Emanuelle.

Getting it into Ribelato isnt documented well ...

From the way I understood it, once you install Ribeleto, Gelato will automatically be able to read RIB files... I could be totally off though, since I haven't had time to get it working.

Also there's the issue that the shader converter needs to be compiled for Windows. So hopefully someone good with using the Windows ports of the Unix compilers could get that compiled for us and post it. (I'm not sure if Simon's exporter uses custom shaders, so that may not be needed anyway...)

Best solution would be to integrate Gelato directly into Workspace, but I'm starting to develop quite a back log of programming projects here... ;)

Dribble uses custom 3delight shaders to enable the use of truespace native shaders - so the rib files would need to be modified to work in another renderer. If dribble had a plain .sdl material shader then I guess it would work.

Hmm... thanks Transient. looks like something to mess with after I get Yafaray working, then. Let me know if you guys make any progress.
