Hi
I use vrml file from TS to wirefusion for real time objet in web page. I use also Illustrator file from business and i import to TS for my job.
The problem is vrml file is not updated since a long time and TS accept illustrator file version 7 max. (actual version is 14!). And anything in the workspace to import (or i don't know the way).
Import export becomes increasingly difficult with TS in my case. Do you know plugins to import-export a more recent file? AI or VRML. But any other solution (2d, 3d files) currently available may interest me (for info).

well.. If you have Vue, it will accept current TS format for .obj including the textures, then export from there to the format of your choice. |

The problem as I understand it with Adobe files in general (AI, Flash, etc.) is that you must be a current licensee in order to upgrade your file version.
This costs money and resources in programming as well.
Example, Swift3D - a 3D program has a license with Macromedia (Adobe) Flash up to the current version.
As far as VRML, the world has moved on. You might ask Tom about any plans for Microsoft's D3D and any incorporate for a markup language interface. |

Wirefusion still uses vrml and is currently one of the top web3d apps. The successor to vrml is x3d and it's still alive and well as an emerging standard, it's just not widely known about at this stage.
I had problems exporting from gamespace to wirefusion as well (the objects were squashed on one axis from memory), I'm not sure if I ever found a solution. There's an app called flux studio which I believe still exports vrml/ x3d that wirefusion likes, if that helps at all. |

Sorry Marcel, I actually just recently acquired an older version of Wirefusion to test the vrml waters. I have the same issues you do and no solution. |

The problem with AI is that is a copyrighted format and Adobe enforces the license.
Enforced license = dead format. Because no one wants to add the license cost to their programs. You can bet that's 100% of the reason that AI format was removed from TS.
Much the same thing happened when the GIF license was enforced. Most people and software switched to PNG as the default lossless compression image format. |

Thank you all for this information.
Today I can work with AI and VRML but i is true that I do not know if this will last long. I doubted that there was a problem with adobe license. Free TS finally ended that possibility. Fortunately, I can still continue to use the import Illustrator 7. This is enough because I used to import simple curves. My WireFusion version 4.1 works very well with vrml from TS but I will learn about the x3d. I just need to get information for the future because it takes time to adapt to new working methods. I posted an example on this forum but I do not remember where. Here are the results on the web:

I like that scene, no plug-in too which is great. A bit choppy on my pc, but I guess that's a drawback of the software renderer on an older pc.
Have you tried wirefusion's opengl features yet? |

Thank Rayman for the info. I see that when i will have time.
Transient: i have not wirefusion's opengl features because my soft is the version 4. I could compress texturs more. I need to update but it is expensive. |
