Since TS7, I can not use the nurbs. All the scenes with a nurbs crash TS when i try to opening a file. Also I do not use them longer. It certainly was good. This could have become a very powerful but it seems that this function has been abandoned. I have not seen a lot of modeling made with nurbs on this forum.
someone there to show examples? just in memory of these functions. |

Marcel,
try turning the bridge off, switch to Model, then your NURBS scene should load without crashing. You'll have to stay on the Model side- Workspace doesn't like them yet.
I also find them indispensible, I hope they are not abandoned!
Quite a lot of my work uses NURBS- for tracing shapes to sweep, or lathe, or loft, they are perfect!
For example, the old gasoline pump (http://www.caligari.com/Gallery/ImagesGallery/runnerup.asp?img=3803&email=&name=Michael%20C%20Horner&year=2008&month=sep&SubCate=Images) was probably 90% NURBS construction. |

Thank you, I'd forgotten THAT bridge. Of course it is necessary to link to the workspace. I hope this is only temporary pending ts8.
beautiful image. NURBS is good for making pipes or to move between the octagon to a smooth cylinder :) |

I use nurbs extensively ...probably 70 % of all my modeling that i have done in the past was using nurbs.
I prefer using nurbs booleans over poly booleans too.
I just switched to another very small application.:D(starts with M
plus i use R with all that M doesnt suffice.
Some insight ! |

Just a simple cave man question here folks.... I am poly modeller for all intents and purposes.... what are the advantages of nurb modelling... when would I decide to use nurbs instead of polys, or why for that matter...... |

From my limited knowledge base NURBS are smooth curves, where poly's are individual blocky squares.
I think NURBS use a mathematical interpolation for potentially unlimited smoothness. NURBS doesn't need SDS, ever.
Can someone second this or did I miss the mark? |

Depends how well nurbs are implemented. If they are well implemented
i would turn it around and say for what would i not use nurbs....
namely for organic surfaces.
For all construction typ modeling nurbs is much faster and booleans
with nurbs are much cleaner. You actually use curves and objects as cutters
rather the build things up the box way or point by point.
Here are 2 examples of use of nurbs out of many.;)
Much faster then making the things with simple boxmodeling and using booleans in polymodeling can cause problems in nurbs it doesnt ! |

I'll be happy when nurbs will be in the workspace because anything that is not in the workspace disappear when the interface will be unified. |

Thanks for the input... I will have to look more closely at NURBS then for some of my modelling....

If you are new to tS NURBS be sure to grab the (free) video course (http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/Newnurbspage.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental).
Well worth the time to watch, it'll save you a lot of flailing about. |
