It's an extremely powerful modeler. But, it's only a modeler.

Caution though, it is thought not to be supported by Daz as they are incorporating the functions of Hexagon into the Carrara Modeler and application.

There are other independent modelers out there that are just as good, perhaps better than Hexagon.

You can go to the Daz3D forums and look at EZ's tutorials and see the functions of Hexagon. He's a good old boy, mangles some words, but a very good instructor and knows Hexagon inside and out.

Its powerful but frankly the 2.x versions are crawling with bugs. I find the free version 1 given away in 3d world last year pretty much bug free and does what I want even if it doesn't have all the newer features (which to a large extent are uv mapping tools as far as I can tell - and I have other programs for those tasks.)

Having said all that I got Hexagon 2.5 from daz on special at around Aus$30 about a 10th of the cost eovia had been selling it at - so I can't complain too much. Could be wrong but I think these days daz are more interested in porting hexagon style tools into carrara than they are in bug fixing hexagon. ! wouldn't be paying US$149 for it thats for sure. ( I just visited the site and thats what the price was.)

I got it for some ridiculous price (£1 I think) at launch but never really got used to it. I also got Carrara 6 Pro for about £30 as an update from the free version in 3D World (we get a lot of good stuff from that mag!)

Now that program I mess with for fur which is excellent in a package of that price. If you could get that hair into tS I would be mighty happy!!

So, sorry I can't be more help but the bit of modelling I did in Hexagon was pretty good; I just don't have time to learn it more...:o

I got hexagon too as an upgrade for like 40 dollars...I find it crashes a lot on vista 32 tho. I've never done anything serious with it but it's fairly easy to use once you figure out the controls. I figure it would be best suited to games developers but the obj files also import just fine using LUUV into truespace.

Don't count out Silo as a fantastic modeler. I have Hexagon, Silo 1 and 2.
Silo is not that expensive but very powerful.
Try out the demo and see for yourself.

Once the rest of the tools are added to trueSpace it will have a very usable tool set for modeling. Great bang for the buck but that is in the future.
Without path, lathe, and bending tools, no sketch pad or Navagator support I cannot recommend it yet. (BUT it is getting there)

Here is the original discussion about Hexagon back when I bought it. I think I paid $29 +$2 for it.

I go with what Steinie says i´ve got Hexagon too but from all

modelers i´ve got and i even have Modo I adore both Silo for Poly

and Moi3d for nurbs.

Note that it lets you even retopo heavy zbrush meshes (silo2)and it

hosted very big files see the screen shots in the slug alien wip work in progress thread.

Steinie is right ...;)

pssst dont tell moi is awsome too.

both have trials so you can look into them...
