(Yeah I know, it looks pretty lame now lol. That's why I need some tips...(esspecially for the sky) Does anyone have any tips for making the best sky image for a circular dome? I mean so the whole image can match like a texture on a brick wall? Any help would be apprectiated! :)

hey Birdnest..good start..your birds need to look less stiff..they all look like the same bird....the bend tool used with moderation MIGHT help putting the wings in slightly different positions..

Definately LESS reflection in the water buddy.:) You may want to try using an IBL (image based light) source instead of a dome with a texture painted onto it. <shrug> maybe. Try it and see.

A great start! You could maybe pose your birds so they look like they are circling some unseen thing in the water.

If you're not going to animate the scene you probably don't need to worry too much about 'tiling' the cloud image you use on your skydome. Just make sure that any visible seam in the texture is out of camera shot. The only other suggestion I can make is to track down some tutorials on 'tiling' textures and adapt them to your dome texture.

I've also had some success with alpha masking your sky dome texture so it has transparent patches and using either a second bigger skydome over your first or just a using a different cloudscape image set as the background image. With lots of tweaking and test renders you can get lots of different sky looks using just a couple of cloud textures.

One effect that can look great is to simply use a colour gradient in the background shader and two skydomes with alphamapped transparency. Set the reflectance shader of your first dome so the image is quite bright (the translucency shader can be good for this. Then copy your dome and reduce the scale of your new dome a little then set the reflectance shader of your new dome so the image is quite dark. With a bit of experimenting this can give some real nice 'silver lining' type effects.

It's also often worth trying different UV projections on the dome - this way you can usually get lots of different sky's from the same texture image.

Nope lol. They are actually alpha images using flat planes. Those were just a quickie to give the image a more lively look, they aren't entirely permanent.

Though I do plan on modeling birds for this scene.

And btw, thanks for the comments and tips everyone! :)

If you can add abit of thinness to the ripples, a subsurface or a height shader perhaps, to add color variance would help with the above suggestions.
