Just don't make a new thread for each day, or you might trigger an avalanche ;). This scene reminds me of an architecture contest where only limited shapes were allowed to be used to create a cityscape. |

Oh, no! Every image would be within this thread only. I don't know how often I'll be able to post. It would be litterally for doodling, so expect a fair amount of crap :o . To be silly I just started clicking like a mad man to make this one. Though it looked interesting, so rendered it. |

Here's another. Just playing around with the ubiquitous Mirrored spheres.
I guess I should've titled this thread "Bi-Weekly 3D". Been really busy at work (where I do them Shhhhh!) |

Thanks. I think it came out nice too considering it's simplicity. DOF is my latest best friend. |

Yeah, still trying to get my feel around HDRI's. They're tricky, but I love the results. If I turn it into a real pic I'll probably have a more dramatic camera angle and use some DOF which would blur the BG anyway. Made the fishbowl for something at work, and decided to drop it into that. |

Here's how the fishbowl ended up for the job I was working on. Straws ended up a bit "glassier" than I wanted, but ran outta time. |

Thanks Tom and Hemulin!
Wish I could've tried it in Vray :(
BTW Tom or anyone,
Does Vray support decals or multiple layered materials? The "Wild Wings" was a two layer material applied to the front face of the fishbowl. I remember having trouble with Vlight, and no results with Vray. |

Thanks Dave. I've been a bit outta the 3D lately. Too busy with work and life in general. |

Layered materials are not supported, but you can use alpha channels for transparency if you need to add a decal and such. |

Think you could show me? Here's how I did it. Material with two layers applied to the front face of the fishbowl. Not that I can do it. I don't have Vray, but will buy it sometime. Just don't know when. I'd like to get my hands on the Fresnel Reflectance shader and use it in conjunction w/caustics and HDRI |

Without a layered shader, I think the solution would be to simulate the real world, and have your decal as a separate object.
This would be just a plane, and would use the alpha map to appear like it was a cut out of any shape you like.
There wouldn't be a way to use glass and matte on the bowl itself for instance, so no way to add a decal in there. The "decal as a separate object" is the only way I can see to do it.
HTH!

Yeah, that's the way a lot of freebee models are constructed out there. Just adds more objects. Not too big of a hassle. I was wondering if it might work out this way when I was beta testing. Vlight doesn't support them either. :(
Thanks for the info.

Hey everyone,
And yet another gap in my 3d lifestyle. So here's a little example I did yesterday with a freebee Thunderbird I found on the web. rendered with HDRI .exr files. Supposedly these are better because they can support more info per pixel, but not good enough at it yet to tell.

Here's a different render of my Slingshot for the firearms challenge. This one using some DOF. |
