I still don't know how to name that project, but it will feature my cathedral which I did a while ago and a gargoyle which is in about halfway done.
Edit: A few more pictures of the early progress.
Concept of head.

Some progress on the head, started out as a box.

The head of the gargy is more or less finished. I still have to do some cleanup on the topology to get rid of the triangles. No sds layer applied yet.

The body is what I'm working on at the moment. |

It was initially made for a community movie project, but that fell apart. For now I'm planing a still shot, maybe with the release of tS7.5 I'll animate it. |

You did a great job on that mesh ! :D
Are you planning to sew together head and body or treat them as separate objects? |

Thanks, I'm going to stitch them together, makes it easier to pose the guy.
I'm still spending a lot of time getting the anatomy right. Sometimes I feel like a geek, modeling with a mirror next to my monitor to get the armpits, shoulders etc right :D The last hour I haven't actually modeled anything, just dragging vertices around the screen. My experience with character modeling is very limited (second approach). So be patient ;) |

Pretty much :) I started with a box, adding edges, dragging vertices.... There are a lot of good boxmodeling tutorials out there. |

He's got arms. Next I have to fix that hunchback look.

Nice arms! And you might keep the hunchback..if your gargoyle has wings the back should look abit inhuman.

He,he, I know that method...why do you think my Rider has a beer-belly? ;) |

You should have him really really hunched over. Grabbing the edge of the Cathedral with his claw-like fingers, looking down at those beneath him, being only visible at that sudden crack of thunder! Mwah ha ha! Very cool stuff! I would combine your two projects and make an amazing image... then when tS7.5 comes out, animated him and win the gallery twice! YAY!

Excellent work so far! Gargoyles rock! (pauses to think about last statement!). I'm a bit of a fan for Gothic stuff and I love cathedrals too. Looking forward to seeing something at the end of all this - good work!. |

:jumpy:
That's the kind of models I want to do next. :D
Actually, I hope to create a head next... I've seen people create heads starting from a plain cube... it's unbelieveable.
Cool stuff.
Oh, btw, I'm curious how tS handles mirror modelling, I suppose you create one half of the body and then you mirror it? |

Can only speak for myself, but yes, the "double M" ikon for mirror modelling works perfect ! :D |

Excellent work so far. I think that the facial expression is structured incredibly well, too.
I look forward to seeing where you take it next. Good work! :) |

Thanks a lot for the compliments. I think I'm still at the beginning of the learning process and still very slow. I found some time today to do the wings, quite time consuming without plugins, but I got them done. Next I'll refine the body and add some edges to sculpt the muscles. I'm thinking about giving him a beer belly
I've also added a few more images to the first post to give you an idea how it started.

I'm back on the project again. I'll let the gargoyle rest for a while, just did some reshaping and resizing. It will not be shown full screen anyway. Today I did a grasstest with the great scatter plugin. The rendering takes quite a while though. I don't know yet what every button and function does, but I found out how to distribute a bunch of grass blades over a surface.
Edited by Admin: image too large. Please keep images to 800x600 max size. Thank you for your understanding |

Roughed out the terrain today. Pretty much everything in this preview is just a placeholder. The cathedral is a lowpoly version. The terrain, especially the the steep slope has to be refined, and the grass is just thrown in. Let's say it's a concept of the final image

Some more....October gallery would be possible. I won't have enough time to finish the project in September, and I don't want to deliver an unfinished image ;)
These are just background objects, so I think I can get away with little geometry.

Just playing with the "pixel trash" filter :) Rendered with a daylight setup. The final image will be a spooky nightscene. Things to do:
#add grass geometry and more vegetation
#add some torches on the yard
#add background image
#adding volumetrics
#improve the rock formation behind the cathedral
#??
