Hi, i finished a house, and now i need to make a video of the full 45 houses terrain....but.....what i'm affraid is that my client asks for a "small" change on a texture of the house or something, so, how can i have one house, and the 45 houses just to be linked to that one, so that if i change like the "mother house" all the houses change too????

Thanks

Are you using TS7? If so you could set up one master house and have all of the other houses share textures, scale parameters, etc. It would take a bit of pre-work (maybe a lot of pre-work, depending on the complexity of the house and how many attributes you would like to share) to set it up in the Link Editor, but it certainly should be possible.

You would just export the outputs from the master house for the attributes that you want to share with the copy-houses and then link them into the corresponding inputs on the copy-houses.

Which attributes would you like the houses to share (i.e. roof textures, house scale, etc.)?

Is the "Global Replace" tool available in 6.5? I know it is in 6.6. If it is there in 6.5 you can use it to make global changes.

This is the way I do too. If the scene is well planned at the begining, multiple object replacement is not a big problem with that tool.

if ur asking what i think u are, put all ur houses in the same hirearchy or simply select everything in the scene and use the 'Paint over Existing Material tool' in the material editor, it will replace the texture u click to paint on with the new one but with all the objects selected

Several suggestions here from others that will do what you need, just to summarise them

1. Changing a material, eg roof texture - group all object into a hierarchy, select that group, and use Paint Over Existing Material on any roof, and presto, all the roofs get repainted on all the models. Same with any texture on the model.

2. To change geometry, use the Global Replace too. Modify the master house and then when changes are done, use Global Replace to put that house in place of all the other house models that were there before. Or in place of all the cubes that were there before, you could just test layout using basic primitives and replace using the final model only when ready to render.

Note that working with the client is good here - get them to approve the ONE master house, and tell them now is the best time for them to request changes. Once they have approved that one master house, then go and add the 45 copies. Even if they want the scene with all 45 houses as their final deliverable, they should still give you most of your change feedback on the one model before you create the finished scene.

Still, even if they get awkward and ask for a change, one of the above approaches should do it!

One other thing to note - will all the details really be visible on all 45 houses in the render? Surely some will be so small as not to be noticeable, so there is another possible solution - this falls into the "only model what you need" category. No sense working extra hard on something that will turn out to be a five pixel "dot" in your finished image :)

HTH!
