Bug bonus

Every software company is particularly concerned to build robust programs.

Caligari too?!

There should be an incentivize not only to show nice user-pictures but also to show the willing to

make more and more robust software. How often it happened that you worked with TS, you felt the flow

of your creativity you forgot to save your work and suddenly crash!... The work of hours is destroyed.

So I make this proposal:

Give a bounty (head money) for every new repeatable bug wich is repeatable for most of the beta testers.

Wigand,

I can tell your miffed.

One suggestion I would make would be to have a feature for automatic backups at user selected time intervals.

I could see a reward program for their beta testers, but that's WHY their beta testers to catch repeatable bugs or crashes. (Besides their ability to supply recommendations).

Patches are for fixing reported serious bugs like 7.11.

I would think the reward program should be given to the users that find series bugs...after all now it's in production and their the ones suffering.

That is what I really tried to say. EVERY user with an registration who find a real bug should get an award.

Sorry, it would be impossible to administrate. Beta testers do get rewarded, there is free upgrades involved for those who are active. Best of all they do it because they love the program and want it to work well, which really is the best incentive to find bugs.

The admin issues - well, how to say who found the bug first, how to administrate claims such as when we say no reward because the beta testers found it first (which is not publically posted), or even no reward as the developers already knew about it, or that it is in fact the same bug as another but with a different result, claims there of not fair etc.

Plus of course how much money? Tiny amounts then no incentive, large amounts - well, that is all money better spent on developing the software.

We have very good bug catching techniques in place, which are doing a fine job. Our users are also very vocal about bugs and issues and are quick to tell us about bugs and problems. And you can bet that all our beta testers are the same. Even I am - I can guarantee you the developers are probably fed up hearing from me about this bug, that feature, that change, etc :)

HTH!

Thank you.

I thought an incentive to find bugs could also have an advertising meaning

for potential new users. They compare programs with their chrash-ability too.

An incentive could appease the frustration about long known bugs. ;)

( I hate this old boolean function bug wich I cannot repeat by will but by

accident ). I hope my english is not to strange and I did not offend someone.

LOL. The funny thing about software testing is, no matter how much time is put into debugging and beta testing, no matter how well planned and articulate the software developers/testers are, the very minute it's released, someone will manipulate the software in a way unexpected by the developers. POW! New Bug. I've been there! :)

a little off the subject slightly, i noticed the other day when searching for a manual for a piece of hardware i had an online manual made using MediaWiki, the technology that made Wikipedia whereby people can add contributions and such, in other words its a manual created by all the users and would be a good place for people to put things such as commonly known issues that not even the beta testers may have come across, it would be constantly growing and people could add their own tutorials and stuff and therefor be a great TS resource, just a thought lol
