Terragen 2.....what kind of software is this? It sounds familiar.
I assume it must be used for rendering outdoor scenery right?
It looks very impressive.:) |

Mostly :). I heard that the Planets from the movie Star Trek Nemesis was done with Terragen. Maybe used in other Productions too.
The FAQ also at the site from the link informs about rendertimes. Not sure how actual it is but think it's still. |

We talked about Terragen on the TSML back in 98. So far I believe it is still free and you can download latest at their site. I had forgotten all about it. Latest renderings show the program has come a long way. Some look like photos! It is primarily a landscape generator and renderer. If you want to put some really cool clouds in your work, like Parva stated their very well done. |

There used to be a rendersize limit in the free version of Terragen.
Is this still the case, if so what is it?
Not being lazy here, but I just caught this thread on my way out to a hospital appointment...gonna get poked and prodded again...sigh:(
Cheers

Garion: I'm sorry for you. I hope you are fine.
The maximum resolution is 1280*960
Terragen is a nice program and I'm waiting for the new version too.
With terragen it's possible to create HDRI backgrounds.
Several times I tried to create a landscape and import it into TS.
I wanted to use the terragen picture as background and the
imported landscape-object as a shadow-catcher, but I had no luck
to put them together  |

LWF (Lightwave) export in Terragen works quite well with trueSpace.
@Garion - ouch. Hopes you are going well. All the best! |

I used lightwave export, but the problem was:
It was difficult to find the same angle or focus to combine the picture and
the shadow-catcher. If you find a good way to do it right, let me know, please. :) |

To use all features and full render size (and commercial use) you have to register and pay. |

Unless version 2 is incredibly stellar, I think that Terragens future doesn't look to bright given how many of system have developed similar tech and yet goes beyond Terragen by a bit with higher quality and broader functionality. Mmmm real time volumetric clouds......
But for some reason I feel that Terragen 2 is like ZBrush in development the quality is there by others are just smoking them on the development curve. Even if v2 comes out and is outdated by other it'll have it's uses, just not as broadly as they could've been. |

vue can be quite similar in come ways, but i dont think it is as versatile as Terragan, for a start the volumetrics seem far better in this, when looking at those pictures i found it hard to believe they were rendered, they are very close to photorealism lol, scary, im still impressed with the old terragen as well really, it has always been a great piece of software, and didnt feel like cheating like when using Vue or Bryce which people use and call themselves modelers lol
just a totally random drunken babble there lol, pay no attention |
