Hi.

I'm still working with TrueSpace 5.1 and am also in the process of learning Lightwave 8.5. One thing that Lightwave has that TrueSpace could really use is layers. With layers, you can place different parts of a model into different layers and can hide the parts you are not working with, so you can get a more detailed view of what you are working on. I have recently been working on a new character model and had to zoom in to place some teeth into the upper and lower jaws. But the view was very cluttered with the mesh of the model behind it still in view. I managed to finish the model successfully, but it would have taken a lot less time if I could have hidden what I wasn't working on.

Does TrueSpace 7 have layers?

Also, speaking of TrueSpace 7, is there any word on the demo version????

Thanks.

Paul.

Layers have been in TS for a while now. In TS7 they are in the top left corner of the UI...

I Agree. Layers have been around since quite some time. They are a little bit different to handle than in Lightwave (more intuitive IMO). Each layer has it's own colour (customizable) and can be switched on or off to your liking.

Yeah tS 6.6 has got a useful layers system but if you are still using tS 5.x that's probably not a lot of comfort!

I don't know if you have these tsx's from Primitive Itch or not but using either the piHidingTool tsx or the piSceneTool (indispensible for tS 5.x IMHO) with it's Toggle Visibility icon you can easily hide and reveal objects as you require. The piSceneTool is fairly essential for complex scenes although it does duplicate some of the KFE functions.

You could also hotkey the 'Invisible' toggle function like the following illustrates: (Layers are better but since you have tS5.x you make do with what you have)

Oh, thanks very much for all the info, really appreciate it :). Good to know layers are in higher versions of TrueSpace, I'm hoping to upgrade once the new character animation tools appear in 7.5.

Thanks.

I love trueSpace, but in no way shape or form do they compare with lightwaves use of layers....they are outstanding.
